Did anyone else think De La Hoya - Hopkins was a little suspect?

Yeah, it's a bit one sided, but it really is a brutal eoncouter.

There is a chance DLH thought 'what the **** am I doing in here with a guy this big?' and looked for a way out. In his autobiography he certainly admits to the first part of that statement.

Personally, I think it is what it is. DLH was doing ok in the fight, he grew into it and there was no real reason he couldn't have gone on to get the decision. If he was being totally battered then I think there is more credibility to the idea he threw it.

So yeah, he got tagged with a body shot and didn't have it in him to get back up again. Simple really.

Oscar doesn't even grimace as the shot lands and even as he falls.

He doesn't clutch where he got hit, which is the natural reaction.

He doesn't actually try to get up.

    And then he completely over-acts.

Even in the interview he tried to further sell the shot by saying 'boom' when they showed the replay, when it clearly wasn't a hard punch.

Castillo certainly wasn't when Hatton stopped him with a body shot.

I wouldn't go as far as to say..."Oscar dived!", because that would be a bold claim. But observing Oscar's reaction while he was lying on the floor, made me think "who the **** are you tryna kid?". Ok you got hit with a good body shot, but why are you trying to sell it to us? And why are you exerting so much energy thumping the canvas, but not bothering to try and get up? Then moments later, you're fine enough to be pacing around the ring shouting "****! "****!".

So yeah to this day I still find it suspicious and amusing to watch that:

But the following is the kinda reaction you're use to seeing to a body shot. No doubt about this being genuine (forward to 2:45):

Hatton broke 4 of Castillo's ribs with that punch.

I don't think he pounded the canvas because it hurt but because he realized he lost and that the chance to make history was gone.

If you were ever hit by a bodyshot like that you would know there wasn't anything fishy about it.

If you are a conspiracy theorist, you could say that the whole fight was staged to end in round 9 and lots of insiders had money riding on that round for an ODLH stoppage.

A conspiracy theorist may then also point to the fact that someone can audibly be heard shouting "bodyshot, bodyshot" repeatedly like a maniac, as a polite reminder that this is the round where the show is closed.

Oscar then gives what cannot be described as an Oscar-winning performance.

"A fact is a pragmatic truth, a statement that can, at least in theory, be checked and confirmed." That's the fact of what a fact is. You can look it up too. I'm sorry but sticking up for reality is not pompous. That's why I don't say, "You're a douchebag, and that's a fact." I can think it and state it as my opinion but it's not a statement of fact and therefore I'm not going to call it one. You can't just say anything and then rationally think it's a fact. I'm sorry. :verysad
