Did anyone else think De La Hoya - Hopkins was a little suspect?

    Are you blind??

    Look closely at the clip YOU provided;
    DLH gets hit
    DLH goes down
The ref sends Hops to his corner
    The ref counts DLH out
DLH is still down after the count.
Once he realizes he's been KO'd and lost the fight, he starts banging
on the canvas(he was down for at least 30 seconds).

    :patsch

If Oscar wanted to take a dive... he could and WOULD have done it in a much less embarrassing fashion. He could have went down on any number of shots, or claimed an injury... hell he had fresh stitches in his hand, he could have blamed it on that. Do you honestly think that in one of the biggest selling, most hyped fights in history that Oscar would knowingly choose to go out like that on purpose... as an act? People talk about him "punching" the canvas... but always fail to say that was AFTER he was counted out. At that time, he was just pissed at himself. He couldn't beat the count... he could have got up sooner than he did, but after he was counted out, he was just upset with himself.

I think DLH always trained hard for the big fights and tried to win them. It wasn't a matter of him lacking desire in losing his fights, it was being against better fighters, debatable decisions aside.

Hopkins was the only fight he didn't seem confident in though. His demeanor going into that fight was different than I was used to seeing from him. Maybe he kind of knew he was in over his head.

Lets not forget that DLH took on Hopkins, 3 years after Hopkins had beaten Trinidad.....

I believe DLH waited that long because his hope was that just short of 40 years old, Hopkins would have slowed down enough to where he had a chance.

Even during the build up interviews of that Hopkins fight, on several of DLH's interviews I noticed that he was saying he was'nt going to let an old man beat him.
"He's a tough fighter, a great fighter, but I'm not going to let an old man beat me."

DLH was diminishing what would have been his accomplishment by stating "I'm not going to let an old man beat me."........
......but I sensed he was trying to convince himself that he could beat Hopkins because he was an old man, and old great fighters dont beat young great fighters.

......and then coming off that Sturm debacle, certainly DLH was'nt riding into the Hopkins fight full of confidence.

Like Lance Uppercut said much earlier, DLH did'nt take a dive, he just found a way out of a beatdown!
