You have to include Max Baer in the discussion. He punched one guy to death, As Baer rose for the 5th round, Tillie "Kid" Herman, Baer's former friend and trainer, who had switched camps overnight and was now in Campbell's corner, savagely taunted and jeered Baer. In a rage and determined to end the bout with a knockout, Baer soon had Campbell against the ropes. As he hammered him with punch after punch, the ropes were the only thing to hold Campbell up. Herman, as Campbell's chief second, had the option of throwing in the towel, but did not. Referee Toby Irwin seemed oblivious to what was occurring and by the time Irwin finally stopped the fight, Campbell collapsed to the canvas. It is reported that Baer's own seconds administered to Campbell, and that Baer was by his side until an ambulance arrived 30 minutes later. Cambell later died. and indirectly killed another (see below). Two seconds before the fight ended Schaaf was knocked flat on his face, completely knocked out. He was dragged to his corner and his seconds worked over for him for three minutes before restoring him to his senses... Baer smashed a heavy right to the jaw that shook Schaaf to his heels, to start the last round, then walked into the Boston fighter, throwing both hands to the head and body. Baer drove three hard rights to the jaw that staggered Schaaf. Baer beat Schaaf around the ring and into the ropes with a savage attack to the head and body. Just before the round ended Baer dropped Schaaf to the canvas, but the bell sounded as Schaaf hit the floor."[ Schaaf died from a jab in his next fight.
And almost all of them defeated him, because Shavers lacked the ability to put a cancer ridden kitten out of his misery Shavers' overrated ass couldn't KO anyone who wasn't a bum, aside from a faded, jelly jawed Norton. Shavers' power is overrated as hell. There's a difference between Tua's power and Shavers If you go down from a Tua left hook you STAY down. If you go down from a Shavers' bomb, as long as you're not a bum, you will recover and proceed to beat his ass.
Earnie Shavers 6' 210 lbs 74(68KO)-14(7KO)-D1 KO%76.4 and it would have been more like 90% if he didn't keep fighting until he was 50! Highlights include knocking out Ken Norton, Ron Lyle, Jerry Quarry, and putting Larry Holmes on the canvas. George Foreman 6'3" 250 lbs. 76(68KO)-5(KO1)-D0 KO%84 and he boxed until he was 48. Power punching highlights include knocking out Joe Frazier x2, Ken Norton, Michael Moorer, Gerry Cooney, Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Ron Lyle, and George Chuvalo. Wladimir Klitschko 6'6" 245 lbs. 58(50KO)-3(KO3)-D0 KO%82 though he's not retired yet. Highlights include knocking out Chris Byrd and Ray Mercer. David Tua 5'10" 240 lbs. 52(43KO)-4(KO0)-D2 KO% 74. Highlight kos over Michael Moorer, Hasim Rahman, and John Ruiz. Mike Tyson 5'10" 220 lbs. 50(44KO)-6(5KO)-D0 Highlight KO% 76. Kos over Donovan Ruddock, Trevor Berbick, tiny Michael Spinks, ancient Larry Holmes.
There were some idiots who could get up after getting knocked down by Tua, except for 1 all of them learned it wasn't smart getting up after Tua knocked you down.
Not a chance. Baer was tough and aggressive, but he didn't have 1-punch KO power at all. His myth far surpasses his actual power. Just watch some of his fights, like Shmelling or Braddock. Baer hit his opponents with countless clean shots to the head, and they just kept coming forward. What made Baer dangerous was that he was tough as nails, aggressive, and have VERY good precision, so most of his shots landed. He fought a lot like Seth Mitchell.
I believe Jimmy Ellis, who was KO'd by Shavers, cited him as the hardest puncher he fought. What does Ali have to gain by rating Shavers the harder puncher over guys like Foreman or Liston? Nothing, especially seeing how he knocked Liston and Foreman out, but went life and death with Shavers.
Yeah, because all those old timers actually fought a Lennox, Wladimir, Tua, etc, so their word is law Also, Ali said in his autobiography that Foreman had him out on his feet two times from glancing blows, Ali took bomb after bomb from Shavers and didn't look hurt, also Ali was a shot to **** zombie when he fought Shavers, and Shavers still couldn't put him down atsch Ali has a lot to gain by rating Shavers higher than Foreman, ¨look at me guyz! I beat the HIGHEZT PUNCHAR EVA while I was past it! i'm so badazz!¨ I bet it's the same for the majority of those old timers, they are trying to praise THEMSELVES by praising Shaver's overrated ass I highly doubt he punched harder than Foreman, but even then, other boxers have shown to hit harder than him.
