If I'm going to measure pure power, and not listing P4P power, including guys like Wilde or Naz Hamed, my list would go in order of NOT wanting to be hit by these guys: Foreman Tyson Shavers Lennox Louis Wlad People say Shavers gets overrated, but those horror storries are enough for me and I've seen him nearly kill off Holmes with one shot. Unreal power, just no intangibles to pull it off. Got a real late start to the game as well.
Actually the only argument for Shavers there, and it's weak as **** when you take it outside the time frame those opponents were fighting in. And add in the fact that every single fighter quoted beat Shavers!!!
Who on Wilder's resume approaches John Ruiz, Michael Moorer, Oleg Maskaev, Hasim Rahman etc? **** man, who on Wilder's resume approaches Darroll Wilson? There really isn't an argument there. As for Ruiz, that motherf*cker was as tough as they come. He was only ever stopped twice in his career, once when he was young and in his prime (Tua) and once when he was old, broken down and semi-retired (Haye) and it took Haye nine rounds of rabbit punches to do so. Tua knocked him unconscious in under 20 seconds. I don't think people appreciate just how crazy that is. (Regarding how Ruiz took the initial blow, he was moving away and got clipped by a leaping left hook that was still strong enough to stagger him and lead to the barrage of blows that left him for dead on the canvas. Pretty strong argument in favour of Tua's power right there I should think.)
Why didn't he hit him so hard he knocked him out then? Or even knock him down? This was zombie Ali after all. He had no legs (and if you believe him, no conscious ability to even avoid his shots).
The tiger uppercut bus driver! He can't just hit hard, he backs it all up to. Ali ain't got no talk compared to that man. "Oh you goin to jail naw!" POW! :toney :rofl Amir Khan hits harder than any fighter I saw.....when he tumbles down to the canvass for a sleep.
Foreman is way more proven, power wise, than Shavers, though even his power is a tad overrated (watch the Lou Savarese fight). Still, I can't think of too many opponents, if any, who got up once Foreman knocked them down, even slow-as-molasses long-distance telegraph punching Foreman of the mid nineties. Shavers never displayed that type of raw brute power.
This may shock people but I'd say Wlad hit's harder than both of them. Look at his KO percentage. Tua also hit damn hard.
Baer didn't have VERY good precision at all. He bludgeoned you with wild haymakers and backhands in tiny little gloves whilst tripping over his own feet. He was marginally less crude than Tony Galento, and had the rudiments of a jab to work with. The man he killed, Frankie Campbell, wouldn't even be classed as a cruiserweight today, and was according to the newspaper reports (no footage of the film exists) repeatedly rabbit punched whilst trapped against the ropes. Another horrendously overrated puncher.
What horror stories? You mean about him breaking two of Howard Smith's vertebrae? Tyson did that to Golota, a much naturally larger man, with just one punch, and he broke his cheekbone as well. Earnie repeatedly bludgeoned Smith whilst he was crouched in a corner against the ropes unable to roll with any shots (not to mention the hit and hold uppercuts). I'm just surprised Smith didn't sustain worse injuries, considering what a kickass uber-punching unreal power monster Shavers was.
