I dont understand some of the Shavers detractors arguments not saying his power hasnt been overrated but to say he doesnt hit hard because he didnt knock out Ali or Holmes There is a difference between being the hardest puncher ever and the best finisher ever..Ali and Holmes had great ability to take a shot and were very good at recovering and boxing I mean think of the left hook Frazier hit Ali with and how quickly Ali was up and back in it I agree with the Tua shouts he blasted some very good fighters
There was a punch test among the late 80's heavyweights, and it was Frank Bruno who hit hardest through punching pressure. I think Tyson was 4th or something silly like that.
Nobody here is saying he couldn't hit hard, but his power is very overrated. I'm trying to verify what you just said, I think I've found a link.
An oft-cited 1985 study of Frank Bruno, who'd go on to be WBC heavyweight champ, showed he could punch with a force of 920 pounds in the lab. Researchers extrapolated that to a real-life blow of 1,420 pounds, enough to accelerate his opponent’s head at a rate of 53 g — that is, 53 times the force of gravity. I'm almost 100% sure that Tyson had never let his power measured, in case it could damage his fists or something like that. frank Bruno probably also ranks with the strongest punchers ever... Though he didn't really have a killer instinct, suspect jaws, glass composure, glass cardio.
Wlad compared to Lewis. Lewis was much more accurate Lewis had the better right hand Wlad has the much better left hook Wlad his jab is more lethal (when he was younger even more) Lewis was more willing to trade Lewis was better at throwing combos Wlad has the better handspeed. Lewis is all around the more dangerous guy in the ring.
Lewis was much more accurate how? Wlad is very accurate with textbook punches. I agree with everything else almost, although i would say the pre Manny Wlad threw some great combinations especially when he would do a jab, hook of the jab and right hand combo. Also i think the Lewis uppercut deserves a shoutout even though Wlad has started using it more again, Lewis uppercut was a thing of beauty.
Yea, sometimes when I feel sad I watch a Vitali-Lewis highlight video and skip to the part where Vitali gets that brutal uppercut, so I know I don't have it that bad.
And there's a difference between being an overrated puncher and not hitting hard at all. I suspect that's the root of your not understanding the detractors' arguments. Shavers hit hard. Others hit harder.
The sound that shot made was just sickening, as if a gun went of. Even if Vitalis chin does not get tested often, the fact he did not go down there. I HATE saying "that should would have knocked out anyone" but in this case i will say that shot would have knocked down almost anyone.
The three guys I would not want to get hit cleaningly with are: 1. Foreman 2. Lewis 3. Shavers in no particular order. But next on that list would be Tyson.
Dude jerry Q smoked shavers in 1 round when he was near or in his prime [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEpVPBH12Ik[/ame]
