Did anyone like Leonard-Duran III?

I loved Duran; cannot stand Leonard, but even I would concede that if the decision of the third fight was given the other way, all we would take about is an out and out robbery, and Duran's connections....

 

This was my 1st time in Vegas for a fight.....what a crusher:-( know in hind site it looked a nice cosy arrangement with Duran getting his massive wedge of $$$$$$$$$ to pay of the IRS & get his exit visa back so he could leave the states & after the fight all pals arm's around each others shoulders & Duran saying champagne for Ray & beer for me & with the celebs all walking out after 9 rounds & the rest of the crown screaming BULL**** BULL**** still ringing in their ears:-(

You show this fight to a serial killer & it'd turn him into a pacifist, this fight back fired more on Leonard & after this thief in the night job no Vegas casino would touch him again...the robbing con game was over:deal

 

Boring fight, BUT, if you like superb ring generalship, then there is something to enjoy. Remember, Duran was coming off his victory over Barkley, I believe. Yet, Leonard with his speed, footwork, and fine ring generalship basically owned Duran. Shows you how styles make fights. Sort of like how Floyd can own Marquez in a dull bout but then in his next fight Marquez beats Diaz in a more entertaining bout.

 

It was one of the worst big fights/events I have ever seen in my life.

 

It was a repeat and a clinic on how you beat Duran. It was not a great fight. Leonard landed a great right on Duran in the mid rounds which should have knocked him out. What surprised me more is how dominant Ray was, but how cut up he was at the end. Once Ray found the style to beat Duran, he would have beaten him easily every time after.

 

Hey nice to see you also. Honestly. I thought it was an ok fight. The aggressor vs. the runner. Duran couldn't really win the way Ray was fighting. I like that card in Dec. of 1989. Morrison fought on the undercard and was a young fighter then. Hagler did commentary with Clancy and Ryan. Duran looked good, but he could not get Ray to fight on the inside. Duran on this night would have beaten Barkley again, but Ray moved and used his jab and landed some nice punches. I still remember this was the start of the Mirage or the start of the hotel hosting fights. It was cold and Ray had a blanket over him between rounds. Tommy and Ray fought to a draw the previous June and I was hoping it would be Hearns/Duran 2 instead of Leonard/Duran 3. Hearns/Duran in 1989 would have been Hearns winning again I think ,but Tommy had diminished more in those years since 1984 from fighting some of his toughest fights from 84-89 than Duran in a way. So it might have been interesting and would have lasted longer than the 1984 fight.

 

It was terrible,when compared to their first fight.

 

How could it possibly go the other way

 

Or the third fight should have taken place soon after the second.

 

Terrible fight.

 

Leonard never ever gave anyone a re-match back when they really mattered & demanded, he knew a fit & ready Duran would have delivered Montreal II & Hearns would have won big also.

He was no fool Leonard when it came to survival, hence the bug out against Hagler for 5 years & then the catchweight fiasco's of Hearns II & Duran III, where do you think Mayweather has got his avoid survival statergy from

Makes good sence too let everyone else bash each other up then jump back in when his most threatening foes on well on the slide & sweep up the pieces too claim everlasting glory.
