a pretty long article about this young mexican immigrant who's won 2 national golden gloves titles back to back but who can't fight for team USA because his immigration situation is not kosher. What was his name? anyone seen this guy fight? a future star or do they not know what they're talking about? the article was in the sports section on the front page but I don't have the paper anymore.
if anyone cares I found the article on their website http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/11/sports/11boxer.html?_r=1&ref=boxing
Good article, Eric has the making of the next Oscar De la Hoya, if not he can be the next Mexican boxing superstar, hi coaches better hurry up with his papers.
Too bad politics interfere with yet another boxer, but I don't think he'd be less proud representing Mexico. Either way, if he impresses in London, Golden Boy or Top Rank will sign him regardless of the flag he fights under. Never seen him BTW, a video link would be appretiated.
i do not subscribe to the ring mag. but I'm happy the front of the NY times sports page had a big piece about boxing.
A Mexican-American will ALWAYS carry the Mexican flag first once they go pro. They do it to get the Mexican community in the US and the entire country of Mexico on their back come big money fights! That is how ODLH, Vargas, and many more Mexican-Americans do it; they put the Mexican flag first, even though they have never lived in Mexico, and then the US flag. :bart So if this kid makes it big, expect the same thing.
A foreign manager is fine, although I would prefer not to have one. Pieterson has an English mother...this guy has mexican parents and was born in mexico! The USA have more foreigners represent them than any other country at the olympics.
