I'm guessing it was shown on the internet undercard of the Mayweather/Ortiz fight but did anyone on here see it? A split against a guy with a 5-4-3 record really stands out, especially after such a dominant performance against a good fighter in Limond. It seems like a baffling result. Was any reason offered as to why he did underperform? You'd expect such a good young fighter to pitch a shut out but maybe the nerves got to him or something like that.
It was never a split decision though, IMO. If I remember correctly, it looked like he lost two rounds at the most. Was still competitive at times though.
He won that fight clearly, TBH i didn't even listen to scorecards and this thread has shocked me i never knew it was a SD. That pretty much says it all about that fight..
Every time I think of a bad scorecard, I think about Doug Tucker giving a shut out in favour of Navarro against Mijares. Thankfully, it seems to have ended Tucker's career as a judge.
Montiel is a) much better than his record, b) rose to the occasion on the night and forced a brawl on Crolla, and c) caught Anthony on probably not his most motivated evening (having been demoted from the main PPV and missing out on a date with El Terrible, passed over for the inferior Pablo Cesar Cano) Also the split was bull****. It was competitive enough to call it a poor night for Crolla, but a CLEAR win for him.
