seems to me like anytime Andrew golota got in the ring his fans would always fight in the stands, esp. the first Bowe and Ruiz fights. My question is simple: when golota Polish fans fought Puerto Ricans and Blacks in the arena, who was winning those crowd brawls. anyone been to the golota-ruiz fight? i heard Polish fans are crazy.
I was never at a Golota fight, but I wonder if his fans cost him the decision in his fight against John Ruiz. His fans were waving flags, and were starting brawls out in the crowd. This in a fight where Golota floored Ruiz twice, and Ruiz was deducted a point, for hitting on the break. I really thought that Golota deserved the decision and the WBA belt, and I've always wondered if Golota's fans cost him points with the judges. I think maybe the judges thought if this guy becomes champion, these hooligans are going to be assaulting people at his fights.
I was at the Peter-McCline fight at Madison Square Garden. Golota fought on the undercard. His Polish fans were, um, very enthusiastic. I don't remember them making any real trouble, but they were very loud and ran all over the Garden waving Polish flags. Around that time I was wondering why Don King would have anything to do with Golota. That night I realized that Golota brought people out and sold tickets, even at that stage of his career.
I was at Golota-Brewster. The Polish fans lost their minds and pummeled quite a few people on the way out the door. They wanted to kill Golota, too. I was also at a Calvin Brock fight in Chicago where Golota showed up. There were a lot of African American and Puerto Rican fans in attendance, because of who was fighting on the card. When Golota walked in and headed over to a beer vendor, the looks on peoples' faces were hilarious. They were terrified of him. By all acounts, he's a pretty funny guy in person. Not the same as his ring persona.
