Did anyone see the Abregu-Garcia fight. What a terrible stoppage!

Abregu got dropped in the first, he then rocked Garcia for the whole round in round 2, started to dominate round 3 only to get wobbled, and dropped by a hook in round 4. Abregu gets credit for not only getting up, but he put Garcia on his back. The ref starts to count, and then STOPS HIS COUNT, and stops the fight. Garcia was very upset. I was also. Why the hell would a ref stop his count before the mandatory count of 8? Garcia was starting to get up, and the ref stopped it. I saw Gary Shaw in the audience, and the scene was all to familiar. Lawrence Cole was accused of this also...stopping fights prematurely. Why not count to 8, and then judge the fighter. Eight to ten seconds is enough time to judge a fighters condition. This was sick to watch!

Give the other fighter a chance to get up. Count to 8,9 or 10 refs. This is boxing. If we are going to stop counts, then we don't need to really watch boxing because it will have lost the thrill in its comebacks. Garcia was very upset, and left the ring without congratulating Abregu, and Garcia is one of boxing's nice guys. Shameful stoppage on showtime. Shameful.

That's what i thought too when he stopped it but after seeing the replay, i think it was the right thing to do. I mean Garcia's head was slouched on the ropes and his eyes were gone.. He looked all but dead to me.. Even if were to continue, he would have got hit with vicious combinations from a huge puncher in abregu..

I felt really bad for Garcia regardless.. I was dammn impressed by him.

Yeah, but Finito, why did the ref stop his count? Garcia was resting and recuperating, and he was starting to get up. Fighters deserve a chance to clear their heads. Garcia has 8 seconds to get himself right. He only got 3-4 Finito. It was a heck of a fight, and a terrible stoppage. Makes you see Bute-Andrade for what it is worth...a robbery lol.

That's true and i thought it was odd too how he stopped counting at 3-4.. But i think the ref looked into his eyes and realized that he was done.. the eyes can tell alot. We didnt get to see it but the ref saw him upclose and it's not like Garcia protested.

He did protest, but to no avail. Abregu does get big credit for showing a chin. That left hook he took was just like the one Holt hit Bradley with, and Abregu got up quickly...just like Bradley did lol.

If there were 20 seconds left in the round instead of 1, nobody would complain about the stoppage. Sure, if he had finished the count, he would have gotten a minute-long break, but I don't think it was that bad of a stoppage. Garcia looked completely glazed.

Brick, how is Garcia supposed to look if he goes down in a fight, like he is sober? The ref stopped his count when Garcia was starting to get up.
