Let's officially end this Cotto/Floyd thing now.

My question is whether or not there was ever an official offer by Bob Arum and Team Cotto to fight Mayweather Jr.? If so please post the link.

No. Never have they even talked with Floyd about it or Floyds people.

Don't be surprised if Mayweather and Cotto have privately discussed this fight.

Hatton and Mayweather had their fight arranged 2 or 3 fights before they got it on without anybody knowing.

    No.

In Dec 2007, they were saying that they prefered to fight De la Hoya instead of Mayweather. Then they scheduled fights against Gomez and Margarito. There were talks of a fight against Mayorga.

Maybe they have it planned for 2009. They only want to see if Cotto's fanbase can become even bigger.

Yeah, I don't remember it ever happening. Just trying to bring some perspective to this cuz lately Arum has been calling Floyd a coward and at the end of the Marg/Cotto pc he makes some comments to the effect of Floyd being a fraud.

Arum called Floyd a coward for not wanting the fight, then he changed his own statement up and said, he "doubts Floyd wants the fight"

Meaning, he's never tried to make the fight because he doesn't THINK Floyd would want it. Basically, he has no ****ing clue.

Well, it's a veteran promotor doing what he does best, I guess. Maybe he's trying to enlarge Cotto's fan base by saying he is the guy Mayweather is ducking. However, how could Floyd be ducking a fighter who's never challenged him? This thing has become somewhat messy.:huh

Yeah, once again, Arum talking out two sides of his mouth. He's trying to take shots at Floyd because he's mad that Floyd is making 30 mil a fight without Arum. This fight was never requested by Arum and the only time it was ever mentioned, Arum said Miguel is not ready. If and when Cotto takes care of Margo, Arum though, will likely make the statement. Funny thing about this Cotto/Tony fight is that the after fight press conference is almost as intriguing as the fight itself.

Yeah, those last cryptic statements of Arum's is what got me to make this thread.

Cotto is a mindless puppet, Arum is an idiot and Floyd can get ****ed as well. ALL parties know this is the only fight that matters at WW.

People who call Floyd a fraud are ones that expect Floyd(the undisputed champion) to run after Cotto when it's supposed to be other way around. Same way Hatton got the fight, when both were at 140 people called Floyd a coward for not calling out the undisputed champion(Hatton) then when he did he was fairly and honestly told by Hatton and his team that they need more fights so Floyd moved up for a bigger fighter(at the time) against highly regarded Judah, who lost before the fight was on. Then after the Oscar fight Hatton's team contacted Floyd and they agreed, pretty simple, Cotto's team can do the same and if Floyd's team refuses then sure he can be called a ducker or whatever bull**** they'll come up with.

The sseds have been planted by Arum and Mayweather. Please correct me if I'm wrong with the following assessment:

Arum is pulling some serious strings:
    1) Arum's stable includes: Cotto, Marg., and Clottey.
    2) Cotto and Marg. are fighing for huge $$$$$$'s for Cotto's titles and Marg. is giving his up for not taking on his mandatory. I heard Arum is making this happen to Marg.
    3) Clottey gets to fight for Marg.'s vacated title. If Clottey wins his title match, Arum will still have all his championship belts that he has now, & he'll still have 2 champs. If Marg. did not have to give up his belt he would only have 1 champ after Cotto vs. Marg.

So Bob's starting to fan the flames with his Mayweather comments. He's got his 2 big guns fighting each other for huge $$$$'s for Arum, and then whoever wins will be in position for serious calling out of Mayweather, and even huger $$$$$$$$$'s. In the mean tiime Clottey, if he wins the championship and looks good, will be ready to make some big bucks.

Then there's Floyd. Pretty much sitting back getting ready for another giant $$$$$$$'s matchup with DLH. Once Floyd beats DLH (he should), then he'll make even bigger $$$$'s fightiing the Cotto/Marg. winner.

So both these guys have their pieces well in place. It woud be very interesting to see if Arum tries to swoop in and have one of his guys fight DLH for big $$$$$$'s before Floyd does, leaving Floyd noone to fight but an Arum guy. I would not be surprised, if this happens, that Floyd goes after another Hatton fight, and then fights the Arum guys.

This is brilliant card playing by these guys.

I'm not even going to worry about it. After Cotto vs. Margarito when Margarito is laying on the canvas from a body shot, ol' Larry Merchant is going to host a live conference between Floyd and Cotto ala Roy and Bernard. Hopefully this time the megafight happens.
