if trout had won by 2 rounds i wouldn't have complained, and that goes the same for canelo of course

one thing is open scoring stinking the house out, another thing is the fight being taken away from trout with 4 rounds to go.....

there was no way in hell trout wasn't in that contest at the end of round 8

good, honest judges would have set that fight up for the climax it deserved
a lot of people looked forward to this fight, and to have a sport that isn't mainstream get butt-****ed by incompetent judges just buries boxing further

you're right. Trout was definetly in the contest at the end of the 8th round. it's not like Canelo won in a landslide. Trout did have some very good moments. Trout is honestly a good guy man. like he's a class act. i mean when he beat Cotto, he clearly beat Cotto. And it wasn't like Cotto didn't land some good punches in the early rounds. Cotto did, but then Trout took over. Trout is a good fighter but he wasn't as slick as Canelo was tonight. boxing isn't black and white. you just look at the body laungage, the quality of punches, the exchanges, and treat each exchange with the appropriate weight.

but it's not like it's easy being a judge. it's easy to sit at home and think you're card is right and theirs is wrong. judges have a different angle then fans do watching the tv broadcast. open scoring puts even more pressure on the judges, i can't imagine the judges themselves prefer open scoring. even when theres a bad decision, at least you can watch the fight and score the fight yourself, and not be influenced by the official judges cards. open scoring with scores announced after the 4th and after the 8th basically divides the fight into thirds. and by the way did you notice that the showtime commentator said 3/4s instead of 2/3s?

It all comes down to how you like to score, total shots landed, ring generalship, or power.

Sadly, there are no official rules. (Not that any judges would care.)

I'll always go for effective power punching, as long as the fight is otherwise close. So, I give this one to Canelo, even though he looked clueless for vast portions of the fight.

    Very close.

I had it 6-6 with the kd making the difference.

Could go either way hopefully we see a rematch.

I scored it a 1 point win for Trout. I wouldn't have a problem with Canelo winning it since he did score the knockdown, but he didn't win that fight by more than 1 or 2 points at the most.

The open scoring system really is a bad idea. Whatever judge had Canelo up by 9 points after the 9th round clearly wasn't watching the fight and probably had his scorecard ready before the fight began.

I feel that Trout was the busier man in the entire fight; Canelo might've landed the harder/cleaner shots, but Trout's volume punching I thought did enough to win most of the close rounds.

I didn't like how Canelo fought the championship rounds because his corner knew they were way ahead on the scorecards. The way he backtracked in that last round was embarassing to see and pretty much sealed the win for Trout in my mind. The way Austin came back from that knockdown when he had wobbly legs for a good 1 and a half rounds and pretty much outboxed Canelo for the rest of the fight was impressive to see.

Hope Trout stays relevant and his team is able to match him up for a title fight again real soon.
