The colour line issue has turned into a bit of a witch hunt in some cases.

It is getting to the extent that champions who never had a serious black challenger, are being scrutinised on the number of black opponents they fought.

Nobody scrutinises the same fighters on the number of Jewish fighters they fought, which might have been a more serious issue at the time.

S, that is why I got into the fray. Any oldtimer with a sense of boxing lore
should know of the sterling reputation of the great Benny Leonard. But for the politically correct crowd of today, even Leonard is suspected because he was Caucasian. The pendulum has swung too far I suspect...I have said this before but the great SRR could of, but didn't give a much needed money shot to a Holman Williams, a Charley Burley, a Cocoa Kid , if he
truly wanted...But SRR gets a pass, but a Benny Leonard who did give the best black lightweights a money fight, is under scrutiny on ESB...
    Grrrr....

BTW, Langford, Jeannette, McVey and Godfrey should al have gotten title shots between Johnson and Louis among others ... When Zale was champ Burley and Moore were his one and two contenders with LaMotta at four ...

SB, you can split hairs or give a bottom line answer ... are you saying black and white fighter faced a level playing field in the first half of the 20th Century ? I say absolutely not ...

Burt, you already did. I simply clarified my question ... overkill seems guilty of something ...

Seamus of the obnoxious comment and the small brain, we know English is not your first language so I'll ignore your refusal to acknowledge my post ... as far as Dempsey the commodity, it's boring and limited , just like his draft evasion and most of your posts. Go back to your third world classroom and grow up ...

You can blame Jack Johnson for those three.

True, but I would still challenge anyone who claimed that this was due to race.

No. But definitely not as lopsided as the picture you're trying to paint. Saying that "most white fighters avoided the best black fighters" is simply untrue. You're going to have to cite me numerous examples to support such a huge statement as that. Asking you to back that up isn't splitting hairs. That's logs from a redwood forest you're throwing out there that I'm trying to saw through. That's all I'm saying.

Dempsey, the first million dollar gate draw, was not a commodity? You are truly gifted in the language of imbecility.

In regards to your question, Leo Johnson comes to mind. I do not know a single fighter that Leonard was supposed to have ducked, black or white, gay or straight, transgendered or leather fetisher.

Again, who did Greb, or for that matter Leonard, duck?
