last night? Berchelt's inability to steady himself in the 4th(?) round indicated something might be terribly wrong but his corner didn't seem too concerned. Did they royally screw up by sending Berchelt out for the remainder of the fight? Could they not see or sense that their fighter just did not have "it" last night and saved him from further punishment? However, Berchelt did turn it on for about two rounds after that but nothing that would indicate he was taking over the fight. I dunno...tough call.
Berchelt's gonna be a shell if and when he returns. And he's got his corner and the ref to blame for that.
Berchelt is not going to make a come back. He took an unmerciful beating last night. What he suffered last night was not just a loss or a quick, by chance, knock out. He was rattled several times with hard shots. He got severely mauled in the 4th round when the fight should have been stopped. Then he was picked apart and mauled and knocked down again later in the fight, all of which set up a brutal knock out of a tired and brutally beaten fighter in the 10th round. I gave him one round in the entire fight, which means he was severely beaten up for 9 rounds. They don't come back from a beating like that. The commission may not even declare him fit to fight again. For all we know he is brain damaged today. Additionally, every member of his corner should be fired right now. They are unqualified and if this mans career is ruined and he ends up damaged for life, the fault belongs to his corner , solely. I wanted Valdez to win, but I did not want to see Berchelt hurt to the point of having this conversation. I was screaming for his corner to stop the fight at the end of the fourth. I knew he wasn't coming back from that.
He said after the 9th “ya valió verga” meaning “it’s all over” abs his idiot coach said “ no don’t say that what are you talking about? You want me to stop it huh huh” this was belchert low key way of saying I’m done but the stupid manager ****ed it all up
It's his style and I am sympathetic to that, but the corner absolutely should have pulled him before that last round. The ref could have stopped it, too, but mostly I blame the corner. Everyone is afraid of the fighter doing what Wilder has to Breland, but you still have to do the right thing.
I just watched the fight again. There is no coming back from this. Pac came back because he didn't take a ton of punishment before he jumped into the right hand.
It was worrying to watch. But he came back strong after the 4th round. I thought at some point that he was coming back to steal the fight. But the two last round were too much for him. It is harder to judge when is too much when it is a championship fight and the guy probably wants the record. Then you have to be wiser and think for the guy in taking the decision that his life is more important than having your name in boxing history, even if that means that you may be hated from the same guy who you just save the life.
Absolutely. Anyone could see he was down on the cards and wasn't showing that he had the power to turn it around by the 8th round. Rather than protect their fighter from themselves they put him back out there and potentially ruined his career. They need to lose their licenses.
I’m not a big Berchelt fan but that was hard to watch. I hate seeing a fighter go down like that. He took punishment and it’s usually easy to second guess a corner but I would have liked to see the towel come out a bit sooner. He’s lucky he wasn’t permanently injured or worse.
I think in the round before the KO, Berchelt was hit flush with a 3 piece combo. That right there was another opportunity and more than enough reason to call the fight off.
When the KO shot landed, I told my wife, Valdez may have just killed him. It would have been diffrent if it happened in the 1st, but 9 rounds of a beating, then to get blasted out like that isn't a good thing. Hope he is 100% going forward.
Said the exact same to mine. I kept having flashbacks to the Patrick Day knockout and tragedy. Probably the most concerned I've ever been after a knockout given the absurd punishment he took for nine rounds prior.
I hate when corners stop fights, but in fights like this when you have multiple occasions where you're justified for stopping it, and when the fighter who is usually the last person to want the fight stopped says, "This s*** is over" ("Ya valio verga"), then it is the corners absolute responsibility to stop it. Disgraceful corner imo.
