Hindsight is always 20/20. Berchelt was the reigning champ, with what most considered bigger power, and a better offensive arsenal. Defense was not w la strong suit, so the idea of him grtting clocked and hurt was always a possibility that he would have to work thru.

If the KO hadn’t happened, we wouldnt be saying this(obviously). The brutal nature of the KO is what I think makes people question if thr fight should have been stopped. Berchelt had battled back after being badly hurt in the 4th. Yes, it could have been stopped there. After working thru the 5th, he seemed to get his legs back under him. He started to make some noise. He hurt Valdez to the body, and got back into the fight. It was notable that most of the shots Valdez was now landing didn’t seem to be hurting Berchelt, and if they did, he worked thru it. Then came the KO shot.

An utterly brutal, perfectly timed, perfectly executed hook that caught a hard charging Berchelt who was looking to hurt Valdez to punctuate the end of a round.

I hink even if the shot not landed, Vakdez wins, but it wasn’t beyond Berchelt’s capabilities to score a come from behind win.

ETA: If Berchelt said it was over, and meant that he was done, and they did nothing..... then, yes, they did him wrong.
