Did Bob Foster hit as hard as ...........

    Yeah, ok, but my original question opening this thread is meant to be who punched hardest in ABSOLUTE terms, at their hardest hitting, regardless of weight or p4p concerns.

    I'm not convinced Bob Foster punched HARDER than any of them, and most of them probably punched harder than he did.

    Seriously, how could one ever know? Most of them ended up fighting well heavier than Bob. I'm sure he at the very least would have matched any of them at 175. He was murder.

    Yeah, good point, we cant ever know, but it's one of those things we like to bull**** about. "This guy hit harder than that guy" ..... :lol:

    Bob Foster's power bothers me, I dont get how he didn't get good reviews for his power against guys like Terrell, Jones and Folley but against tough light-heavyweights his power seemed ridiculously beyond the realm of that weight-class. I think that differs to Archie Moore, for example, who had heavyweight opponents respectful and effected by his power.

    Yes Bob Foster did indeed hit harder than Michael Spinks...and that is no knock on Michael Spinks.

    These are the only guys i think he hits harder than, you've also got to consider the opponents he faced. I would rank him out of the ones you listed the 2nd greatest puncher after Archie Moore.

    No doubt his power was in the league of the big boys.

    Foster suffered tremendously at the top weight because of a lack of physical strength.

    His shtick lay in being able to dictate; when heavyweights were able to walk into him it destroyed his pros as a fighter.

    The earliest footage of Foster at LHW I can find is the Allen Thomas fight, Bob looks lethal.

    There are loads of his fights I'd love to see: Cotton, Rouse, Tessman & Fourie.

    I may be the only one to say this,,,,,,,,

    but no, Bob Foster did not 'hit as hard' than anyone on that list.

    What looks awesome, is Bob's KO record versus 175 lb. fighters.

    But the power was not there, versus 180+ lb. fighters.

    Would have loved to see Bob Foster versus Floyd Patterson
    (anytime between 1965 thru 1972).

    Kind of pointless to compare foster to the above names...they were heavyweights and Foster was a lightheavy. That's why the weight divisions exist, afterall. As a lightheavy, I think Foster stands alone as far as power is concerned. He was truly lethal and a nightmare to the poor guys in his division.

    What I want to know is why in the hell did Bob Foster have his right hand so low in the the Frazier fight. You can just predict Frazier launching the left hook in which he did. Surely his corner had to have said something to him but I noticed his right being loose as well in rd 1. WTF?

    In 1972 Vicente Rondon is KO'd in 2 rounds by 175 lb Bob Foster.
    4 months later Rondon goes to 10 round decision with 205 lb Earnie Shavers.
