Khan is better than Katsidis, and up to Casamayor neither had fought anybody. In fact nearly everything you say about Khan, fits for Katsidis too.
I was not thinking of you, the guilty ones know who they are. I am not an expert myself, but my opinions are my own and are based on what I have seen for myself over the years. Too many people here have spoon fed opinions yet are quick to get abusive when you disagree with them. Again, they know who they are. I don't think that being an epert boxing analyst or historian is required to be a "real" fan. All that's required is a desire to scratch beneath the veneer presented to us on ITV and the daily rags.
I think Mr Warren has been a very smart customer here. Campbell vs Casamayor will have to happen, or they will either hand the strap to Casa or strip him of his interim status. Khan beats this pudding at the weekend, probably becomes mandatory - the belt holder (whoever this may be) may opt to fight him, or make a voluntary defence against somebody else. If they choose to fight him, **** knows what will happen - yet if they make the voluntary, the WBO will bow to Warren's pressure and make the title vacant - leading to Khan facing off against the No. 2 contender, who will, no doubt, be a non punching nobody. The WBO rankings are a joke, even more so than any other body - Warren says jump, the WBO say how high.
I think Khan could be considered chinny, but at least he does fight - not like Wlad Klitschko! I think being dropped early in your career could help, Hatton learned a great deal about fighting intelligently after being dumped, Calzaghe likewise - I am not saying getting stopped in the manner that Haye did, or Maccarinelli did a few years ago would though!
I don't have a problem with Khan attracting a more fleeting type of fan to the sport. Boxing has always attracted different types of spectators, some being more cerebral and often geeky types and others just people who want to see a fight. The more money they generate for themselves the better aslong as they do the business in the ring. It's early days for Khan and so far he has doen okay. The Limond fight was informing and impressive in equal measure. Limond possibly shouldn't have knocked him down but when Khan did get hurt he responded splendidly. Limond is the only fighter to provide a test so far but he's making the right noises and I think Khan is genuinely willing to fight the best. I can see how his media treatment leaves a nasty taste in many mouths I just don't really pay any attention to it.
I don't think Khan talking about fights with the likes of Thaxton & Romanov and then choosing to fight Kristjansen instead is making the right noises. I think that has actually backfired on Khan. Once he starts taking on the best challenges out there rather than the easy route (i.e. dressed up World Title eliminators) we will know whether he is genuinely willing to fight the best.
Fair enough mate. Ive mentioned in the past that im probably being selfish in regards to the overall health of the sport when I decry these fairweather fans. Khan has been alright. I do think he is willing to take on the best also, but we all know that he will be brought along ultra cautiously if Fwank has his way. This is already somewhat reflected by the distinct lack of punchers, even of the moderate variety, on his resume. Until he does take on someone that can whack, questions will remain and rightly so. The media hype is excessive and does help to breed those know all-**** all fans I so detest. But again I suppose it does give the sport a platform to thrive financially and for certain fighters to gain a decent pay day. I suppose I can't really argue with that.
