2011 has been a good year and there are plenty more good matchups to come, hopefully PAC v mayweather by the end of the year (highly unlikely) should top off a great year

It's because MMA(ufc) mainly has have the same champion gsp-silva for a while. They been dominating their division and it's getting to the point where you already know gsp or silva is gonna win their fight.

GSP-Shields looks like a very good fight but gsp will probably win like he has since 2007.

Other division has change title multiple times but there have been so many injuries that some fights that was expected has been cancelled or postpone. With the merging of strikeforce and ufc i expect to have many good fights ahead.

In other word mma is here to stay.

White should learn his lesson from this FMJ-Pacquiao fiasco and have Silva-GSP asap.

Almost everyone I've exposed to boxing has become a fan. Maybe not the hardcore type who will search Youtube for all the current fights, but one who knows all the HBO fighters and is pumped for the big fights.

2011 has been good but 2007 I made a lot of new fans during the year.

Marquez-Barrera, ODLH-Mayweather, Williams-Margarito, Pavlik-Taylor, Calzaghe-Kessler, Cotto-Mosley, Mayweather-Hatton... Epic year. The way I know I converted plenty of them was when Mosley landed the bomb on Floyd in the 2nd round, my phone blew up with texts from probably a dozen guys

I can't really comment on boxing making a turn around/ boxing being bigger than MMA and vice versa because where I'm from all combat sports are in a terrible state. Combat sports get zero coverage on any of the big TV shows, and most people here don't even know who Manny Pacquiao is. Yes it's that bad.

But this thread has started becoming an MMA versus Boxing thread and I'll just share my two cents.

First off, MMA isn't a fad. Perhaps to some people it is but there are less and less of them each day, I don't think MMA will ever overtake Boxing in terms of popularity but in the distant future it will be close. You have to remember boxing is over a hundred years older than MMA so naturally it will be more popular. I think more fans need to realise that, to put in Boxing terms, MMA is at the stage just after the Marquess of Queensbury rules have been introduced. Instead of the Marquess of Queensbury rules though, it is the Unified rules of MMA.

It's funny because on this Boxing forum MMA is a fad, but on Sherdog an MMA forum, Boxing is dead. Two opposing points of view but the thing is, neither of them is right. MMA isn't a fad and Boxing isn't dying.

PS- I also hate Boxing fans who think that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or MMA is gay, if you don't like them then fine but don't be so ignorant.

Thats not a fact, it's an opinion.

Why do people say stuff like this? Why can't you either enjoy one and leave the other one alone, or enjoy both and appreciate them instead of starting arguments.

I'm not sure about White but Joe Rogan is a fan of Boxing, and I have never heard him hate on Boxing.

I don't think gsp wants to move up so i rather have silva vs jones @ 205.
