Just because they are boring to you doesn't mean they are actually boring, granted there are some boring fights not as many as people seem to think...

I bet you think that as soon as the fight goes to the ground for a while it is boring. Grappling is very subtle and there is a lot more going on than it looks like, that is why unless you know what to look for it is boring.

These guys who are part of the legendary Gracie family have great breakdown videos- http://www.youtube.com/user/GracieBreakdown

They help explain what is really going on. Although, Like I said there are some genuinely boring fights, they just aren't as frequent as people think. Fans are becoming more educated though, and this will mean it'll grow.

Thats a great fight too, just a different kind. :thumbsup

Not saying that Santiago-Misaki is as good as Hagler-Hearns but both are great fights.

I used to watch it when it was real. Now all they do is lay on each other and cuddle.

I'm a fan of both MMA and Boxing (got into boxing first, for many years, then mma), and I think they're both on the rise. I personally think MMA is rising a bit faster than boxing, at least where I live.

MMA has come on leaps and bounds in such a short time, and the sport itself has evolved a hell of a lot. Boxing seems to have stagnated and slowed a lot for a while now.

That was a damn WAR, you can't get that in MMA. There's just something about two men going toe to toe, having to beat you opponent into submission... and if you fall you get back up on your feet.

Yup, tank would step in with jean shorts, wrestling shoes and lifting gloves:yep I've met hard core ufc fans that are shocked when I tell them there was no wright divisions and fighters would fight multiple fights in one night.

I actually think the opposite. I'm a bigger MMA fan than boxing fan, but boxing seems to be on some sort of upswing while MMA, specifically UFC, seems to be losing steam.

Brock Lesnar getting exposed was a big blow to the UFC. Hardcore fans knew the guy has nothing but size/strength and not much skill, but the fans the UFC cater to are very impressionable and UFC marketed him as the baddest man on the planet. They even named a whole month after him (Brocktober) then when he was exposed against a smaller, but vastly superior fighter, most UFC fans that Brock brought into the fold didn't become fans of the guy that beat him; they just changed the channel and moved onto the next fad.

UFC tried to capitalize on whatever small bit of hype Brock had left by putting him on the reality show, The Ultimate Fighter, hoping he would bring ratings, but the ratings are some of the lowest the show has ever seen since it was introduced in 2005.

I think UFC has made a huge mistake on marketing the UFC brand instead of marketing actual fighters. The fighters are interchangeable. If you **** Dana off, he will cut you, and replace you with someone else and the UFC hype machine will just run promos about how the new person is the baddest man on the planet. Now that the UFC brand isn't as cool anymore, they can't really fall back on fighters anymore, since they never really marketed them (outside of the guys who looked the part, i.e. Brock).

I think MMA is on the rise because it isn't even yet at the level Boxing is at, and is so young. It certainly isn't on the decline though, maybe some of the guys who liked it because they thought it was 'cool' have stopped watching but the fans are getting better.

I agree with your thoughts on the UFC marketing but I still don't think MMA is declining, it is growing. It's growing much slower than a few years ago, and much much slower than a lot of guys make it out to be but it is growing.
