Ring generalship is a phrase often used in boxing, that basically states a fighters ability to control the ring and dictate the pace of the fight, it also happens to be one of the 4 judging criterion. Don't want to beat a dead horse but, I've now watched the Pacquiao vs Bradley fight several times, and I must admit, although I had Pacquiao winning the fight, with every view of the fight it got much closer. The one thing that jumps out at me in this fight is how Bradley, in the middle to late rounds, was able to control the fight, just being able to make Pacquiao miss and countering to the body. Is it possible Bradley won this fight based on how bad he was able to make Pacquiao look with great movement and ring generalship.
Whatever success Bradley had was based on ring generalship. Not beating Pac to the the punch, not landing more, but ring generalship.
That's what I keep telling people. You can move smoothly around the ring and look like you're in control all you want, but if you're not landing anything significant whilst the other person is, then you're not winning rounds for me. This was largely the case between rounds 1-9.
