I think Katsidis should have left Brendan Smith a long time ago, I think he kept teaching Katsidis essentially the same things walk forward in straight lines and apply pressure and use your face to block punches, If Katsidis left Smith earlier and went to another notable trainer I think Katsidis would have been a world champion, Not only that his career would have been longer. Katsidis is a tragic tale someone who was never able to become a world champion and someone who took alot of punishment in his career, Also I think Katsidis should not have fought at 135lbs for so long, He would have been better either as a superfeather weight or perhaps a superlight weight, I think he could have beaten someone along the likes of Devon Alexander. So Brendan Smith along with a wrong weight category I feel put the final nail in the Katsidis coffin.
He's a massive lightweight, there's no way he was ever making 130. Likewise he would have lost his physical strength had he moved up. :deal
I always felt Smith gave Katsidis good corner advice. Always clear, concise instructions which Katsidis completely ignored and always ran back out face-first. I can't speak for an actual training camp though, but I thought he had undergone a bit of a refinement.
Him and Michael have evolved together as fighter and trainer but time now for Michael to find a trainer to just freshen things up a little. Not for improvement although it be nice if he picked up lil things but i just get impression he's looking stale. May need a spark again and sometimes a change of camp and face helps. My only criticism of Smith was his corner work in Diaz fight he read that fight all wrong but other then that he's clearly improved Michael but i think it may be time for Michael to just branch out and freshen it up on the last few years of his career.
