I think most here agree Clazaghe would outwork Ottke. Still: There is no doubt Ottke would have been a good (if not one of the best) names in Calzaghes record, yet Calzaghe and his handlers chose not to pursue a fight. That speaks volumes about Joe's risk appetite and devalues his track record greatly.

In which country? You have to knock out mofos in Germany to get a draw back then.

In his entire career, Ottke never left his hometurf, that is why this fight never happened. That is the only reason why the fight never happened. And fpr a reason, Ottke got many gifts in Germany. Ask Reid for instance.

    And besides, Calzaghe UD Ottke

The thing is we know Calzaghe went to Germany to destroy Mario Veit in front of his home crowd. So Calzaghe was definitely comfortable traveling to Germany and fighting on foreign turf. But not when it came to Ottke. Why not?

Ottke wants a comeback against Abraham. That is Calzaghes chance. ;)

Sauerland wanted the Ottke-Calzaghe fight to be in Germany because it would be a big money fight, and wanted Calzaghe to have a tune-up fight in Germany before fighting Ottke there.

But Frank Worren wanted the fight to be in the UK, where Calzaghe was a huge name. So it works both ways. You could say they ducked each other, just like Roy Jones and Chris Eubank ducked each other.

The article says Sauerland was about to try to set up a fight between Ottke and Hopkins, because Hopkins was a name and Calzaghe wasn't. Of course, that was all talk and no facts.

The guy who ended up fighting Hopkins was Calzaghe. So who really was a name in boxing: Ottke or Calzaghe?

Bomber, do you have any idea why we're not allowed to write the name W.a.r.r.e.n. here on this forum?

This is one of many reasons Calzaghe didn't want to fight Ottke in Germany:

on this occasion, gibbering joe was right to run in terror, because otkke would have denied joe his welsh ref to stop the fight, and replaced him with a german paid ref to get joe stopped.

veit, king of 4-6 rounders, was ****, anyone would travel for him, even gibbering joe.
why veit was even fighting for world titles ever was a mystery that team Poirot Holmes couldn't solve.

face facts, veit was so bad that gibbering joe had killed him in the last fight, no wonder he knew he could easily beat him in Germany.

That can't be the problem. Calzaghe traveled to Germany in 2005 to destroy Veith in front of his home crowd:

I was skeptical when people referred to Calzaghe being a cherrypicker but c'mon guys, it doesn't get more obvious than this. Why did Calzaghe fight Veit twice, even meeting him in Germany.. And chose to fight Ottke not once?

I am sick to ****ing death of people shitting on Calzaghe for fighting Veit a second time as if he had a choice in the matter. He was set to fight Brian Magee when Veit called in his mandatory the day before the fight. He was ordered by the WBO to defend their title in Germany or else he'd lose it. He had no other choice.

What the **** does it matter if it was a WBO mandatory or not? It was still a mandatory. Are you seriously going to tell that its impossible and unthinkable for any other organization to have had a fighter lose a title fight only to work his way into a mandatory spot for a rematch?
