in his younger years he was a pretty good puncher, against weaker opposition albiet. later he used his handspeed to get inside and be awkward instead of just booming left hand. in the amatuers all he used his right hand for was to wipe the sweat of his brow. anywyas very few peopel have hurt hopkins so it's a niether to be honest
Just so we understand each other, my definition of hurt = in trouble. Oh and if you like any other examples of a 'hurt' Joe please, any fight, find them, i'd love to see, cos well maybe i'm not looking right but I can't see many at all in his career. Maybe late in the 12th vs Eubank...? ******************************************************************************************************************** To answer your question SJC...... I've seen most of Calzaghe's fights and I've never seen him 'SERIOUSLY' hurt or in any danger of being stopped. Yes, he's been down three times...BIG DEAL!Almost every fighter go's down at some stage in their career. Calzaghe had never been past eight rounds, prior to the the Eubank fight, and by the end he was completely knackered. So we can't really count that one. Against Byron Mitchell, he got caught with a HUGE bomb that he didn't see coming. Most fighters wouldn't have gotten up from such a devastating shot. But what was Calzaghe's response? Instead of backing off and trying to clear his head, like most fighters would do, he went straight after Mitchell and pummelled him all over the ring. That instance right there, proved what excellent powers of recovery and a big fighting heart Calzaghe has. Kabary Salem, also caught him with a HUGE shot, but Calzaghe got right back up as if nothing had happened, again proving his powers of recovery and fighting heart. The Hopkins knockdown was a well timed shot from a bigger man who knew exactly what he was doing. Yet again! Calzaghe got straight back up as if nothing had happened. I've seen Calzaghe take shitloads of flush bombs throughout his career, yet he's never been in any 'SERIOUS' danger. I've never see him wobbled (forget the one against Hopkins, because that was a headbutt followed by a punch) or on spaghetti legs either! To summarize: Calzaghe is a f*****g tough *******!
B-Hop was hurt in the Tarver fight for sure, and gave Antonio props for hitting hard. He was also hurt in the first Echols fight, even if he was hit on the break. He HAS been hit, and ALL BOXERS GET HIT! Even defensive wizards.
Who cares? He got enough respect to have Mary rolling around on the floor in desperation and running around the ropes all fight.
Hopkins kicked his ass. If anyone was hurt it was Calzaghe. Wonder why Calzaghe punched Hopkins in the balls? Because Calzaghe was losing the fight and was frustrated
Perfect username dude. Such clarity and insight ! Bernard winked at the ref the second time he tried pulling that rest-providing stunt.
Neither of them hurt eachother. Hopkins got Calzaghe with a flash knockdown, Calzaghe landed a couple of clean shots on Hopkins. It was a dull fight, mainly because of Hopkins' constant grabbing.
