Was lacy on course to becoming an atg fighter until jc knocked the fight and the confidence out of him ?
No someone, that could move and fire quick combinations was always going to be Jeff's eventual downfall. Look at his title winning moment vs. Syd Vanderpool, he was being outboxed, Syd just didn't physically have enough to take the punishment...
I think that's iffy speculation at best. Lacy was mostly a hype job. Prior to fighting Calazaghe what really impressive wins did he have? Omar Sheika? Robin Reid? I think it definitely damaged him mentally. He would have been better but ATG may be a stretch.
Remember, it's always Calzaghe haters that still bring him up because he "destroyed American legends" Right?
ROFLMAO Slappy Calzaghe couldn't knock a fly off a rice puddin' After the gift dec he got over B Hop Slappy ran from a rematch Even tho Nard said he go to Wales to fight Cowardzaghe surfaced
He did. Lacy was on the path to greatness when Calzaghe ruined him. I would favor Prime Lacy to TKO Ward, if he had a fair ref. Prime Lacy was just in the wrong division at the wrong time.
Yeah. Slappy Joe beat Lacy within an inch of his life, but you gents done milked that cow dry. Get some new material.
This. No question Joe Calzaghe was a wonderful fighter. But due to the evidence, i.e. Lacy's actual performances and opponents, anyone that believes he was a future atg, well, obviously they know **** all about boxing or are in simple denial. Both the Kessler win and the Hopkins win were better.
No where near atg Average champion at best I never believed the hype Real champions can come again did lacy ever get near fringe world level after that defeat there is your awnser
prime Lacy gets stopped by 40something guys. in other words, cowardzaghe did worse than a 40something. not exactly atg territory, more like lacy was just about joes only decent defence up till then. but congratulations joe on managing ONE good defence after 8 years of WBO reign thus far, it was a step up from nearly a decade of wbo fakes that he managed well. its like a eurochamp stepping up and beating a world titlist, a very good effort indeed.
He knocked the mediocrity out of him. Didn't Lacy have around 22 pro fights when they fought? It was a good win for Calzaghe, no doubt, but Lacy was never as good as some people make him out to be.
