exactly it was a good win considering joe was a wbo "eurolevel" titlist at the time (ie unreconigsed for 80% of his 10 year reign ie only 2 years being really valid for joe).
For the first time since winning his bo title 8 years previous, joe actually beat another (albeit one of weakest inhistory) titlist.

its the equivalent of Euro champ George groves actually beating Badou Jack.

despite only 2 uyears being really valid for joe, he added 2 more years to it beyond lacy so he is still in the top ten longest reigning SMW champions.

    lacy looked the part
about as physically big as any supermiddleweight can get
    good power as well

but boxing wise he lacked fundamentals/footspeed/handspeed /jab/ringcraft/abilty to cut off a ring.

calzaghe tattooed him all night and after round 7 i think it was team lacy should have pulled there fighter when he got hurt a couple of times after being completley outclassed for the first 6.

his left rotator going in his next fight as well as the shellacking he took in the calzaghe fight meant his career at the top was very short lived.

he was overhyped IMO pre calzaghe on his build and power and not on his abilty.
he was exposed and while a dangerous fighter / was never an elite fighter at any time.

    The injury did for lacy.

Lacy had only beaten a couple of decent fighters and most were past thier best. He was over hyped and got hammerd

But what his managers were thinking putting him in with another awkward southy who he had already struggled with god only knows.

Still, none of that makes him a future atg, especially considering how weak the US was at 168 in those days. None of that. But if you want to claim that despite the evidence itself, rock on. "A few good world champions", yeah Reid and Bika:lol:. Yup, future atg:patsch:lol:

If it wasn't for Herol's hilarious level of hatred all these years on I don't think I'd bother clicking on a Calzaghe thread. To be this invested this long after someone has retired is a special achievement.

It's a good win for Calzaghe. He defeated him when he was on his A game. Of course people in retrospect are going to say Calzaghe beat a bum/average/nobody because years later they know now he didn't do much but when Calzaghe beat him he was an up and coming good prospect

He should really see someone about it. A psychiatrist would have a field day with him.

"So what do you think is the underlying reason behind your unhappiness Herol?"

"Well there was this guy from Newbridge who used to box a few years ago..."
