Lacy was a very good strong powerful SMW but was never the same fighter after Calzaghe beat him. That was a terrible beating that would likely have changed many careers. You may have a point although it could not be proven. Would Bute have had as good a career if Froch had of given him that same defeat before his title reign started? I think Lacy could have gone on further but it was a step too far too soon. Some fighters never recover from a loss and with Lacy he damaged his shoulder in the fight after Calzaghe and was no longer able to use the left hook the same from what I understand
Throw in Farmboxer for good measure and you'd have academics ripping up textbooks in frustration across the globe.
You sound like your finally getting over BerNerds embarrassing duck and run, fake low blow loss to the so called Cowardzaghe. Bernie was getting outboxed, peppered and wanted to quit from a supposedly feather fisted Calzaghe until he faked the low blows and bought some time. Who's the coward there? Lmao. Lacy would never of been a great, but he was a good fighter that without the Calzaghe defeat probably would be remembered as a solid SMW champion. The confidence sapping manner of the loss to Calzaghe, coupled with a serious rotor cuff injury soon afterwards (which IMO was probably as big a factor as the Calzaghe defeat), ruined him. Afterwards he had no confidence, and an injury that surely took away something from the main weapons in his ****nal. He was done as a top fighter.
Jeff Lacey was one of the most undeserving hype jobs I ever seen. No he was not, and never will be ATG status, thats just obsurd and reaching like hell.
No he got schooled and knocked out the same way by someone in the amateurs. So when Calzaghe did it, there was already a precedent and Lacy was just getting found out and exposed. Same thing for when Canelo beat Kirkland. Ishida had already shown were the cracks were.
