haha! these guys, especially bailey, are a source of entertainment for me. i actually think calzaghe was a pretty good fighter but they go crazy saying he's one of the best ever and it's so easy to shoot down. these brits love their fighters and there's never any shame in that, it's just the arguments they present sometimes are beyond ridiculous.

Calzaghe retired because he was old and had a lot of fights.
It wasn't his responsibility at the tail end of his career to fight young American fighters a division up from his natural weight.

And also one of the best. You've got to be **** hot to beat Hopkins, Lacy, Kessler, and RJJ like he did.

 

And I think he retired probably because he was on the decline and there was a good crop of young guns on the rise. He knew he'd eventually be beaten - possibly badly.

I don't think he retired because of fear, or losing, but what would be the point in fighting them? He'd proven himself countless times to be the man, and no fighter would want to be beaten down for the sake of it.

 

Even ATG's lose if they hang around too long, fella. Have a look at Roy Jones and Holyfield.

 

Calzaghe was 37 when he retired.That's pretty old even for a supermiddleweight/lightheavyweight.I applaud when any fighter gets out of the sport without any permanent damage and money in the bank.
