Was it a combination of the Calzaghe fight and the bad shoulder injury afterwards? Calzaghe's performance that night was outstanding, it was an even money fight between 2 champions, no one prior to the fight could have predicted such a heavy one sided beatdown between the best 2 fighters at 168.

Could a fighter ever comeback from a sustained beatdown like that and ever be the same again?

If Lacy hadn't have fought Calzaghe back then, could his career have gone on to greater things?

Does it annoy you that an even money fight in hindsight can be played down so much and treat with such contempt today?

the brit media hyped up lacy so much and now they all think that's a great win. even when froch beat bute, it was called one of the greatest wins in brit history. it's because there's a lack of history. you think if ward would have beat that version of bute that US fans would be calling it one of the greatest victories in US history?

Not sure. Maybe it might be a good idea if we could assemble a panel of experts to break it down for us, consisting of butt-hurt Yanks, disgruntled fanboys of fighters Joe beat, and weirdly obsessed haters who've devoted a simply staggering amount of ther time spent on here to trying to discredit Calzaghe and poison others against him with their revisionist bull**** and lies. Hopefully a good few Black Panthers will show up for good measure to offer their unbiased opinions too. You know, people without massive agendas.

Lacy was hyped but ultimately still unproven when he fought Calzaghe. Who had he beaten exactly?

The British media were as guilty as the Americans of overhyping him. So it's hard to tell whether Joe ruined him or whether Lacy just wasn't that good to begin with. I think it's a combination of the two, Lacy was an ok fighter who believed his own hype. The Calzaghe beatdown destroyed his confidence and he never came back from it.

A lack of history? Oh the irony. Wasn't America only founded about 5 minutes ago?

Any observer knows Joe put in a great peformance only because Lacy was a talent-less bum who moved like his feet were stuck in mud.
Joe's fanboy's never mention how Jermain Taylor also dominated him and dropped him on his ass, something Joe couldn't do.
Shot Roy Jones didn't lose a round to him and fought him while he talked to somebody in the crowd.
Lacy isn't even worth mentioning on those guys records but Calzaghe lovers still sing about the victory to this day.
    What an embarrassment.

Robin Reid had never ever been manhandled the way that Lacey destroyed him i bet if we looked back over the boxing threads all you yanks were more than likely saying that he was knocking joe out early.

"Ruined" is a strong word since it appears Lacy is currently on an unstoppable comeback train headed for world campionship greatness.
