You are right, I have edited the post too as I was not meaning to imply anything to the contrary. I just happened to read one of the GBP people explaining what had happened. Anyway, perfectly obvious that the Chavez side cancelled the bet, they don't want to go home empty-handed.
Canelo had Jr shake on it that if he (Jr) did not KO Canelo or win against him he would give Canelo his purse ...Win/ Win for Canelo and Golden-Toy Jr has to pay his team so he best hope they don't hold him to that handshake.
That would be a dumb move. Imagine Chavez Jr scores a KD, and beats Canelo 8 rounds to 4 and Canelo comes out with some split decision victory. That's why you never bet the purse.
