"Carl Carter, the big Cuban. Carter is not a heavyweight of first rank—he is slow and ponderous,
but he has fought several creditable fights and is credited with a gymnasium knockout over Harry Wills."

If it did happen Carter was barely a 2 yr pro, the article was written before Carter fought Monte Munn. Carter for that fight was 11-10-1, 8ko's

I wouldn’t read too much into it to be honest.

All kind of crazy stuff has happened in sparring.

Exactly I just saw it, I didn't know that and found it interesting. No big deal, iron man Liston was dropped by of all people Ray Patterson.

I didn't know there were Cuban HW's plying their trade in those yrs. What got me was the "big and ponderous" label, he was 196pds.
