Yes, I try to consider all available information, data & view points independently, and then my conclusion ends up where it ends up. Having debated several times with Mendoza on different subjects, I strongly suspect he adopts a viewpoint, then searches for information and data that supports his viewpoint, whilst ignoring everything that doesn't. You're correct, that isn't unique to him to be fair. I'd find it hard to justify a top 2 of anyone other than Ali & Louis. The order is debatable, but I'm yet to hear or read a credible argument that they aren't in the top 2. Vitali at 10 is also a bit of push (unless you're ranking purely based on H2H, which I know Mendoza doesn't). However, I agree with you, this list isn't that bad, I've certainly seen plenty worse.
That is my top 4, and while I now go Louis, Ali as the top 2, I actually could easily accept Holmes or Lewis ahead of either.
I have no idea if he avoided him and it would have been an interesting match up but the only way Maxey was ducked was because he may have been a horrible spoiler ...
Maxie used to have a bit of a stand up routine at the club. He'd tell them he quit boxing because Joe Louis was afraid to fight him...........before continuing......... yeah, afraid he woulda killed me.
I debated whether to post this, figure I'll provoke laughter, but I don't take this message board stuff all that seriously, it's fun and a diversion so I post it in a sense of fun and diversion (not insisting it would turn out like this in real life). On my old Android tablet I have the Title Bout computer boxing game, the one based on the old Avalon Hill board game (which I still have in storage somewhere too) that's supposed to be "statistically accurate." Last night for cacas and giggles I dug the tablet out of the drawer, charged it up and fought Joe Louis vs. Maxie Rosenbloom. Entered in the factors of Louis being at his prime and superbly conditioned, and Maxie being past his prime and out of condition. And it went the full 12 and Joe won a lopsided decision but didn't knock him out or down and basically looked like merde in the fight. I still stand by my real-life prediction that Joe would've overwhelmed him and taken him out quickly at that point in time, but take the Title Bout result as you will ...
