    Yes.

He was a master boxer. Archie Moore said Burley was the best he ever fought. Think about that. Archie fought everyone.

Your asking a question that you and every other boxing fans knows the answer too.
I would like to know the reason for asking such a question that you and everyone knows the answer too. What is the real reason? Is there a hidden implication behind it? If so what is it?

By all account s yes ,for sure. When you think of some that have gotten title shots over the years, sometimes more than once ,Burley should have been first up .

If the middleweight champion of the era should not be held accountable for failing to defend against Burley...Then why do many people claim Burley was the poster boy for being unjustly denied a title shot?

WHO was at fault here? WW II? The times? The champions manager?

He should have gotten a welterweight shot before middleweight but that's kinda difficult when the guy who has a share in you is named Zivic.

Yes he deserved a shot at the title...but by all means give us the hipster revisionist reason why he didn't.

Armstrong was the biggest duck, I would have said, though i'm pretty sure he knew nothing about it himself.

Bob, my take is that SQ is a very knowledgable poster who on occasion puts a thread out to gage the knowledge of other participants .. I do the same at times .. reading him for over five years here I've found him to be extremely knowledgable on the 30's thru the 50's and the Murder's Row universe. Just my 2 cents ..

I agree he is a knowledgeable poster. I'm not denying that fact one bit. He certainly knows more than me about that era. My issue is with the undertones hes implying but doesn't seem to want to come out and say it.
One moment hes doing everything but outright saying Zale was afraid of black fighters then when I call him on it he precedes to say what an outstanding fighter Zale was. Hes walking a very fine line here and I'm pointing that out because there seems like there's more to it! If there's something he really wants to say then say it. Dont play and beat around the bush
