Just watching the fight, the rounds are very close, I have a hard time believing the scorecards, charrs constantly being hit by jabs, and counters, landing the odd big shot once in a while, I cant see all the fight but Ive seen most of the rounds on youtube. I think Charr got a bit of a gift here, it looks very close, all the rounds are very close, either way he doesnt look so good in his last 3 fights, haye would have beaten him easily, looks like a bad arreola, comming forward but getting hit. charr needs to use his jab more and learn on moving his head, defence.
When I watched it I thought Johnson relatively clearly won the first 4 rounds. After the 4th he visibly faded and Charr began to pull away on work rate. Gave the last 6 rounds to Charr but I could see a draw as the 5th was pretty close.
Last I checked it was still up on youtube so I would say check it out yourself. For a fight involving Kevin Johnson it is actually exciting(ish)
He looked good early on.. But he gave up and went into a defensive shell just like he always does. Johnson gave a good account of himself in the early rounds, but he faded before the middle rounds and Charr clearly won be 2 rounds or so.
I agree I just don't get why people think he's contender material. He got a lucky shot at Vitali and somehow that's earned him contender status when he's never beaten anyone of any note. He's not even as good as Arreola. He isn't a big puncher, his defence is a very basic high guard with minimal head movement and when he throws in combination he looks off balance, with too much weight on the front foot. Just watch his fight with Yakup Saglam. Saglam hits him cleanly and repeatedly in combination without any difficulty. Had Saglam not retired due to injury he may have exposed Charr.
This. I loved how being down 5 points through 4 rounds against Vitali was enough to make him an ESB Superstar.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Wilder would make short work of Charr. Charr has almost no head movement, and is slow.
Charr overrated? how? He's not great but he certainly isn't terrible.... He's a lot more proven than Wilder that's for sure... Charr is like Chisora only a better body puncher... Chisora is a bit quicker with better head movement. Both would knock Wilder out.
