Yes Claressa owned Savannah in her own country. Savannah won’t contemplate going to the US to fight Shields.
No the performance of her life would have been knocking out Savannah. Claressa is so much more better than her.
She's still pound for pound one of the best female fighters: she's still very skilled and a great puncher- against anyone not called Claressa Shields. And she showed what heart she has. Round after round she went after Claressa despite little success. I thought Claressa last night showed a level and an intensity way beyond what we'd seen before. The Claressa who fought Kozin, Rankin, etc did look beatable- and it seemed possible Savannah could hurt her. Savannah will have to face the realization that the belief she's had for so many years that she's really as good as Claressa when put to the test proved to be a delusion. I feel as if she's more than ready to retire- she feels the weight of so many years devoted to boxing. I don't see what more or what else she could do against Claressa in a re-match. It wasn't close enough to warrant one. If she's not quite done and she'd like to bank a bit more cash when her profile is suddenly so big, she could try to tempt super middle names- Cruz-Dezurn, Hammer etc and pick up titles there. Any likely fights other than Shields I'd think quite winnable. Also if she can't shake a stubborn desire to test herself against Claressa again that would provide a roadmap. Claressa could challenge her for super middleweight titles and you could sell the narrative (not that I'd personally buy it) that she was tight at middle and super-middle will suit her better. We'll see.
As the US will, rightly to be fair, never let Peter Fury in to their country given his criminal record; Savannah would have to use another trainer for the fight if she fought Claressa in the States.
And if she could beat one of those names, her profile would rise even more. If Savannah does retire, though, she could do so without any regrets.
Well you cannot blame people believing the US boxing is corrupt when a fighter is caught red handed in his own home receiving an illegal excessive amount of Saline drip. Many times the amount a medical facility would administer for dehydration. Now when asked if they were going to investigate this the Commisions reply was. " This fighter did nothing wrong we will not be investigating" ROFL!! The irony in all this is the fighter only broke THREE of the Commissions own rules regarding saline drip. A doctor was quoted as saying " If that person was so dehydrated he needed 750 ml 0f saline he'd be in ICU while they fought to save his kidneys" & laughed
Don't watch female boxing much, but congratulations to Clarissa S. While I always enjoy a jolly old nationalistic chinwag with our Transatlantic boxing brethren, the shadow of possible Ped usage has been cast. Such a shame that there is controversy in a defining fight in woman's boxing history.
Clarissa Shields is an awesome fighter. she sounded very girly at the post interview. I would have sex with her!!
I'm not sure that Savannah would be allowed in either. It was noticed that she wasn't in attendance at Taylor/Serrano to plug her own upcoming fight. She seems to have MTK management links.
