He caught by a solid right hand. Maybe he could have continued but the outcome would not have been any different! Even at such a late stage in his career, Tyson was far too quick & powerful for the likes of Etienne!

Of course he took a dive. He was scared shitless before the fight even started as was Spinks and many others. How can you ever expect to win a fight when you've lost it mentally before you've even entered the ring?

ettiene was talking pre fight like he wasn't deadicated to boxing anymore and it sure looked like he wanted to lay down. it was a great shot by tyson, but why come out swinging with tyson from the get go if u didn't want it to make it a short fight? he had to realize that his best shot was to survive and try and outwork him late (at that stage of mike's career). also, the way cliff jumped up and 10 and was hugging mike and they were talking it sure looked like he could've continued. ettiene wasn't bad before that and had some exciting fights btw even though he obviously lost his mind soon after this fight.

EDIT: I doubt that the "fix was in" as the below poster points out, but moreso that cliff's heart wasn't in the fight game and he just figured he'd go for broke early try and get lucky and if he gets caught good (like he did) he'll just call it a night. Or he could've simply had the dumbest game plan and was surprised that mike could still pop and didn't want any after that. All that said, it isn't impossible that tyson's handlers put the fix in (paid a decent name hw a little more than usual to make sure mike looked good to get the money train rolling). who knows but it's very doubtful (but there was a lot of money to make).

"Taking a dive" implies the fix was in and I doubt that was the case.

Ettiene was simply paralized by fear and once down decided that safety was the better part of valor!

Did you see in the replay how Ettienes jaw dislocated and how he almost fell on his ankle and injured it? Doesn't look like a fix to me. I say most men would stay down from that punch.

    No.

The way he fell and the fact the punch landed flush on his face makes me doubt a fi.

The taking the mouthpiece out was either a reflex or he just quit.

No - Etienne never had much of a chin. I'm not saying he couldn't have continued but it wasn't a "dive"

That Tyson fight wasn't on PPV in america. I never forget where I was during a Tyson fight, I remember right before the fight in Feb of 03, there was Jay Z concert on and right after that the show "Family Business" was on, the one about Seymore Butts as a porn star trying to keep the business afloat.
