Welsh Welterweight banger Colin Jones turned pro at 18 and quickly went on to win British Commonwealth and European titles. Two hard fought fights out in the Las Vegas Desert heat saw him come closer than close to just be denied the WBC World title. 1985 in Birmingham turned out to be the last fight of his career for the WBA title against a new young undefeated champion at his peak - pound for pound king Don 'Cobra' Curry who broke Colins nose open forcing the doctor to stop the fight in the fourth round. Thus Jones never realised the dream of becoming World Champion and will always be remebered as a 'nearly' man. But despite his successful career and 3 world title shots he was only 25 years old when he reitred. Was he too young to go? Could he have carried on and become a World Champion? Or did he do the right thing close his career on the 3rd failed world title attempt?

He has said in an interview that he didnt have the hunger anymore. The purse he made for his last fight with curry was the biggest for a non heavy in britain ever, at that time. He also started to gain weight between fights, causing him trouble with his skin, which started cutting fairly easy..
However the Colin Jones who banged out Hans Henrik Palm in two rounds in copenhagen in 82, would have been a serious threat to anybody...

Solid reason to retire to be honest.
