Did Collazo actually say he was quitting at any point?

Is there ever a time when the ref of doctor leaves the decision in the fighters hands because they are not sure whether they should stop the fight on his accidental injury? Like in the case of the Cotto Clottey fight, he was asked one of these, can you see or do you want to continue? It has been a long held notion that Cotto could've said no and taken it to the cards based on that question and the reason why, has that always been incorrect, did he have to say yes or otherwise be considered forfeiting?

If so, I understand it but have seemingly been held to believe otherwise, and it is a little strange that a fighter cannot complain about a cut so obviously affecting a fighters vision as in the case of Cotto. I can understand not leaving it in a fighters hands because of what you said but on the other hand there is still the possibility of corruption by way of a ref or doc not stopping a fight that obviously should be stopped. Interesting, I never thought of all this or realized it's significance before.

The distinction is that in the case of Cotto vs. Clottey there were already talks initiated by the officials to halt the contest. They asked the fighter if he could see as part of their decision making process. That didn't happen with Collazo. His corner asked if he wanted it stopped and he shouted "that's up to you, but (slight increase in his volume) I can't see!"

Ah, I knew I must've been missing some dialogue. I did not know they asked Collazo if he wanted to continue, and his only reply being, I can't see. It all makes perfect sense now, thanks IB!!

Not only did he say that he couldn't see but when asked if he the fight stopped, he said yes. He was well aware of the beating that he was taking and feared that if he went back out, he would get completely knocked out or seriously damaged. He stated post fight that he quit because the wanted to continue his career as a fighter. That leads me to believe that he feared for his health if he would've continued. Thurman was dropping some heavy drama on his dome.

Technically, he shrugged and whined "hey, that's up to you".

For boxers, that's a no-no. You make VERY clear that you want to continue, and you don't go around trumpeting how you can't see unless the physician is actively deliberating upon whether or not to make a cuts stoppage and is directly asking you to help inform his decision.

Those are cardinal rules, and rules Collazo knows full well.

Opposite side of the boxing continuum would be Vitali Klitschko vehemently asking the ref / doctor NOT to stop his fight against Lewis...!!!

    Collazo quit...!!!

It's like Khan vs. Judah. Zab and Collazo both were hoping for a technical decision but got what they deserved.

Nate Campbell got a NC, and as you put it, freely volunteered the same excuse to quit against Bradley. No difference. Maybe different commissions have different rules in regards to that, or maybe boxing is just boxing, full of controversies and double standards.

That was incorrectly handled. Campbell essentially tried bullying David Mendoza into changing his mind, and when that didn't work used his Don King backing to drag it all the way into the NSAC offices.

Campbell lambasted Mendoza for missing the headbutt that opened the cut, but the fact is that shouldn't have mattered - neither Mendoza nor a doctor had moved to stop the contest. It was Campbell that began crowing about not being able to see on his stool. The fighter never gets to initiate the decision to have a fight be stopped, ever. Bradley TKO3 ought to be the official result of that, because Campbell quit.

The controversy over whether a punch or a butt caused the cut was irrelevant. The fact is that Campbell himself initiated the motion to halt the contest, and that isn't the fighter's place. The decision being overturned was a huge mistake on the part of the NSAC. The squeaky wheel got the grease.
