As can be seen above, he didn't surprise me - in certain areas. He did however, surprise me considerably with the way he elected to spend key periods during the fight standing directly in front of Berto within kissing range, not throwing any punches, posing, dropping his hands, and playing the tough guy. Right from the beginning Collazo walked in and waited. Collazo disappointed me badly in this fight as someone who had faith in him, I was screaming at the TV throughout. That was not the same guy who got fought Rivera, Hatton, or even Shane Mosley. Rarely did Collazo make Berto pay for his mistakes. He didn't even try to give us any of the brilliant counter punching he's known for. Didn't even bother for the most part. He was crude and basic. Even when Collazo did go on the offensive he would get carried away and punch himself out. All in all, he was a full blown disaster. I had a sneaking feeling Collazo would be somewhat mesmerized by Berto's speed as a wannabe speed demon himself, but I could have never predicted he would spend soo many minutes fighting like a mindless brawler, arrogant *****, and thoughtless idiot. ___________________ Did Collazo surprise you? How so? I know some of you had very low expectations for Collazo. He probably "impressed" you folks, eh?
He didn't surprise me....went as expected with the exception of the decision. I remember the Hatton fight and Collazo impressed and surprised me then.
Yeah he did. I didn't think he'd win more than three rounds. Figured Berto's speed and combinations would be too much.
Nope i knew he could beat Berto but he did surprise a lot of people who dont know that much about him.
Actually overall I thought I saw a lot of people picking a Collazo upset or at least saying he comes damn close.
The full bodied arguments were for Collazo. That always seems to be the case in these (so called) upset scenarios. The polls picked Berto to win by large majority 70% and higher. Anyway, as I said I don't feel like Collazo ever even showed up for the most part - and he still took it to this kid in a major way. That's how much of a ****ing walk it could have been.
i think ur expectations are too high for collazo he looked very good against berto especially given berto's huge speed advantage i think collazo is as good as he showed us against berto it wont get any better im sorry to say because i kno u expect so much more
not really i knew collazo was good and thought he would be able to pull off the upset being he is the awkward lefty with a pretty solid chin.
Collazo is a likeble guy a good fighter which always come short I think he wasted a lot's of energy chasing Berto and ran out gas in the end, wrong strategy dropping the hands this create a bad impression with the officials looks like Berto wanted more than him. I think he will endup like Judah if you want to be considered a top dog you must pass thru him.
He surprised me in a few things and I actually expected Collazo to loose more convincingly, especially after his last performance against Mosley. He proved he could take Berto's best punch. I didn't think he would be as durable as he proved to be. He brought the fight to Berto and made Berto fight his fight during most of the fight. However, he also surprised me of how careless and aggressive he got at times. It seemed that because he was on tv. and in a big event (championship fight), he wanted to impress the crowed and those at home watching. Or who knows, maybe he just got over anxious. When I was watching the fight, into the third round or fourth I knew Collazo was going to gas out. When it was the mid rounds and he was walking around with his hands down, I thought he was going to loose and possibly be ko'd later in the fight. But he didn't, by the end, I thought he did enough to get the edge on points, considering the point deduction earlier. With all that said, Collazo exceeded my expectations. I don't think he could have done much better, with exception of not over shooting himself early on.
Circle, good see you. You're a great resource for fights, the fans owe you for all your wonderful work. You truly are a legend and great benefactor to us all, my man. Many thanks. I'm not as familiar with your views and boxing knowledge itself, however, and I know you are clearly not aware of me either. If you think Collazo is as good as he showed us against Berto you're smoking crack or just don't know what you're talking about. Maybe you think Berto is as good as he looked against Collazo, yeh? You're telling me I expected more from a guy who was dropping his hands to his waist for minutes at a time not throwing any punches? A guy who stood there waiting directly in front of an opponent who was much faster and the harder hitter? A guy who punched himself out several times by throwing far more sustained flurries than his own body could handle? YOU BETTER ****ING BELIEVE IT.
^ san you don't think that had anything to do with the pace of the fight? it's been well documented going into this fight vs Berto that this could be one of Collazo's last cracks at a title with the high stakes taken into consideration why would Collazo purposely as you say "not throwing any punches, posing, dropping his hands" what if the fast pace of the fight just effected Luis more then Berto? or was it something else .. that Luis didn't counter punch and chose to brawl, because he thought he had an advantage and could take out the younger, less tested/proven Berto what do you think of either of those possibilities. good thread.
Collazo is such a frustrating fighter to watch, he could have beaten Hatton convincingly with a little more aggression, or not even aggression, just more willingness to pull the trigger. Against Mosely he stood around posing for 12 rounds. He seems to want to wait for the perfect opportunity to counter punch, but he doesn't have the power to fight like that - he needs to fight more like JMM and less like Arthur Abrham. So no, I expect to be frustarted and confused watching LC.
