Cooper sure as hell never took a drive. Did he quit? Now that's another story. Foreman hit Cooper repeatedly and landed some absolutely huge shots on him, especially Foreman's right hand body shots. Cooper obviously decided on his stool he'd had enough. I'm sure his ribs were telling him he'd had enough. The way the fight was going Foreman was going to batter him into submission before lang anyway.
Cooper clearly didn't have his head right when he was in this fight. I think his drug problems can be credited as to why. It's a shame]Bert Cooper was a very tough fighter when on and one of my favorite fighters to watch. I think he could've had a very good fight with Big George, I think he would've come out on the losing end regardless but could've given a much better account of himself. I also feel if Cooper had stayed motivated throughout his career he could've stayed a cruiserweight and possibly won a championship there and been much more successful as a heavyweight.
I was on the phone with Burt the other day. He sounded good but I know he has good and bad days. He tries though and tries hard. Hes got a good heart.
Seriously? Hey Robert if you don't mind, tell him he has a huge fan on this board. Is he clean these days? I heard he was still going through some ****. I wish him all the best. I've always had a lot of time for Bert Cooper and when he was focused, he was a tough, tough man. Just one of those guys stuck between cruiser and heavy, neither one nor the other really. Of course the drug problems really hindered his career as well. I've always thought Cooper never took this fight seriously. I don't think it was a dive per se, but to be honest, he probably couldn't wait to get out of there to score a fix. In other words, he showed up to get paid. Foreman most likely would have won anyway, but it could have been a tougher fight if Coop's heart was in it.
I don't want to expose too much of Wat I know about his private life but I'll say he has good and bad weeks and he tries to better himself. Nice guy good heart.
Cooper claimsthe Foreman's camp sent hookers who did drugs with him prior to the fight. The person he ids as responsible was none other than Archie Moore.
