Its hard for me to gauge because it seems like the criteria is always changing, id like to see him pick up a few more meaningful wins... if he defends his title against Angulo, then moves down and beats a still undefeated Berto i would say yes. Im not gonna say hes not getting in now id just like to see him do a bit more.
Probably. He's got a strong case. Even though the two biggest fights he's been in have been losses, they were still enormous events. He's accomplished an awful lot. Plus, he's sure as hell famous.
He is a 3 division titilist, also is a better fighter than Mcguigan and maybe a couple others that are already in the IBHOF.
Depends on your judging standards. How many vacated titles has cotto won in his career? How many world title defenses has cotto had? How many loses has he revenged? How many world champions has he beat? All these play apart in judging his entry into the hall of fame. I say if he avengers one of his losses he should definitely make HOF. But at the moment im in two minds.
He hasn't AVENGED any. Other HOFers haven't either. He's won 15 title fights. He's had many defenses in there, obviously. Six of his first title at 140 alone, I believe. Aaron Pryor didn't avenge his only loss, he's a double HOF man as an example.
yes but then it becomes a matter of do you want the hall to be about who is better then its worst fighter inducted, or try to reclaim some self respect and have higher standards of induction? cotto is my favorite fighter, and again, im not saying he SHOULDNT be in... id just like to see him pick up a few more meaningful wins and then it cant really be debated much, as of now i could see why some people would deny him.
The problem with the hall of fame is that it's a hall of FAME and not a hall of skill or hall of greatness. And yet, there are fighters that only the hardcore boxing fans would know and maybe even not then, who were so good you still want to recognize them and they go into the hall of fame. They're confusing standards it seems. :conf
nope he only gets in with either 1.a win over Pac or May 2.Cleans out 154 3.Be a champion at middleweight
He defeated Mosley, Clottey and Judah plus 6 undefeated fighters in their prime, 5 of which were past/present/future title-holders. He won 4 major titles in 3 weightclasses. He only lost twice, in competitive fights against fighters who were at the top of the heap when he fought. He fought absolutely anybody they put in front of him, and always brought excitement. Also, though his losses were brutal, he bounced back to beat world-class fighters in both instances. Give the man his props, he's paid his dues many times over. Absolutely hof-worthy imo.
I agree.... the standards, criteria, ect, seem all over the place and vary from person to person. i sure as hell dont know. If its a HO FAME though, and not just about the quality of fighter but also the other things that go along with that, guys like Gatti and Vargas would be inducted... as while they might fall short on the quality side for one reason or another, they were still 'good enough' and with a huge enough following and fan base and impact on the sport that if someone was making it about a hall of fame, they would be inducted. Then others would say one thing about it, others say another, more bickering and arguing lol. Which is why i tend to stay away from HOF threads....
