i know we cant really judge until we see cotto in the ring, but what are/were your initial thoughts of steward training cotto?

i think its an excellent choice, steward is a great trainer BUT i do think either Shields, Mustafa Muhammad, Dan Birmingham or Tommy Brookes would have suited his style better.

(guys lets leave roach, nazim, nacho out of this as there would have been no chance cotto trains with one of them)

Manny knows Miguel's style from all the comments and analysis made for his fights on HBO so he may adapt or make Cotto adapt to his theory easier. I am not too much banking on a 100% easy work since Cotto is a banger and a gutsy warrior whereas something tells me Manny will probably try to make the best of Cotto's boxing skills while cooling him off the fight instict. Let's remember how conservative Wlad Klitschko and Jermain Taylor became, not to mention once wild puncher Cintron.

Really good choice. Steward knows Cotto down to a T, so it'll only benefit him IMO. One of the first things Steward mentioned is working on Cotto to avoid the uppercut.

Thank God, it's the punch I worried about Cotto getting smashed with in his fights with Judah, Mosley and Marg.

Steward is a good choice, but too early to tell.

Yes, Manny has mention numerous times how much better Cotto could be at HBO telecasts. There also has to be a strong relationship for this to work and we have not heard any negative feedback from the Cotto camp.

I really don't think it matters. Cotto has peaked physically and mentally. His heart has been broken. His reputation has been damaged, the intimidation factor that he had after destroying Judah is gone. He is now a small fish in a huge ocean. 154? Please, the guy is like 5'6 with short as arms and a huge head and has reinvented himself as a "slickster" Let it go Relentless, it is ovah!!!!

he made the wrong choice moving up to 154 to fight such a tall opponent who likes to move alot.

Steward is a good trainer but they've only been together for a couple of months if that.

We'll see on fight night. It seems like Steward has been studying Cotto for a long time, and he even has a man crush on Miguel.

its a great choice. Manny was the one insisting on training him. he obviously sees something good in him.

I actually wanted Eddie Mustafa Muhammed for Cotto, Eddies fighters always close out 12 round wars like true warriors, thats due to the hard work they put in at Johnny Toccos.

Eddie Mustafa is my favorite active trainer.

Too difficult to tell. One thing about steward is that he excels with fighters that have a good jab. Cotto has a good jab and I believe he will be a big help to Cotto.
