did cotto make the right choice in picking steward?

Great choice for Cotto. I always felt that one thing he was missing was a straight right. Also I felt he has gotten a bit sloppy in telegraphing his jab. (Maybe breakdown in corner?) Now what trainer in the game today has a better resume than Steward when it comes to jabs and straight rights? Nobody!

Don't forget Manny works well with guys well with guys that have a great work ethic. I think Cotto has that. I hope the gel.

At worst I can say that it might be too little too late. Damn you Margarito!

Man with all of these great fighters reaching the end of their roads you see a lot of trainer matchups you wish could have happened.

Nacho and Roach would have been great. Nacho probably even more so with the Spanish language/cultural connection.

 

I don't think Steward can add any changes at this stage, maybe some improvements but it will take time to show. I'm not expecting anything new in the Foreman fight.

 

Yes. Cotto has always had a great jab. Stewart always enforces the jab. Hopefully he also builds him a right hand.

Another guy i have been saying should work with Cotto is Floyd Sr. Cotto already attempts to use the philly and Floyd Sr could sharpen it. Its Cottos defense thats very flawed.

 

Snr also preaches a stiff jab.

One of the most overlooked feature for a fighter to look at when choosing a new trainer is chemistry.

You cant just pick a top quality trainer and expect to be better. Without positive chemistry you would just end up getting worse. Example: Jermain Taylor.

However the chemistry between Steward and Cotto looks to be very strong. When Steward was on TTR and called in Cotto towards the end, I got that feeling as if both of those 2 had been close friends for a long time. Chemistry is definetely there, if Cotto can get by Foreman this saturday and it shows that his hunger for the sport is back then the possibilities between steward and cotto is wide open.
