    Bull**** on both?

I used him as an example, I didn't try to make the thread about Floyd. To please go back and show me.

I gave you a link to Cotto saying it was his decision to stop the fight.

How is that not an admission to quiting?

By definition, throwing in the towel to stop the fight is quiting, but the circumstance under which it was done has to be taken in to consideration. Cotto fought for 11 out of 12 rounds. He arguably dominanted the first 6 rounds of the fight before having his nose broken and beginning to swallow blood. He fought rounds 7-11 taking a beating but still giving fourth a great effort and showing alot of will and grit. During round 11 he was tagged a few times very clean to his nose with upper cuts and was very exhausted from the steady movement and punishment he was taking. He was physically spent and unable to continue and had little to no realistic chance of winning the fight. He had already take atleast a 10-8 round and new he couldn't take too many more clean shots. Cotto didn't quit on his stool he was beat in the ring and could no longer give/push himself anymore. While it was clear that cotto didn't really want to continue it was his corner who threw in the towel. Cotto didn't jester to his corner or the ref he didn't ask the ref to stop the fight or walk towards his corner. It was clear he couldn't continue but he never asked to stop fighting. His corner stopped the fight, which by definition means he quit, which is why I voted yes, but no one with common sense, any knowledge of the sport, and an unbiased opinion can call him a quiter based on his performance against Marg. He had nothing left to give.

You should have used a different example besides him. Anyways, I never denied Cotto saying he couldnt handle it anymore but I didnt classify that as quitting since his body was gone in terms of trying to continue to box.

Let me put it this way: Not only Cotto, but everyone who watched the fight at that point knew Cotto couldn't beat Margo, even if it went the distance.

You mean if you were in Cotto's shoes you would just stand in there in order to get KTFO (cause that's what was going to happen should he have continued), so people couldn't say you "lacked heart"? Cmon.

I also hope Cotto does come back stronger too, but I'd have to see it. I'm looking forward to his comeback fight.

Yes he did, but it was a back and forth 'real fight' that was highly entertaining. Much props to Cotto, he could of ducked the Tijuana Tornada like Pretty Boy Floyd did. To top it off Miguel wants to avenge his loss. The Boriqua has HEART!

That's just me. I'd leave it all in the ring.

Im not saying Cottos a quiter or what choice he made was wrong, but that shows that Cotto quit and he doesn't have a heart like Holyfield or Gatti. He wont push himself to that point.

Well Mex, technically he did quit. But not in the sense some posters mean it like in "quitter", "coward", "no heart" etc. :good

    1. Even your brain? :huh I mean you would risk getting severe damage, just to say "you got heart"? It's boxing mate, it's not like the fighters defend their families in there.

    2. Fair point. But you gotta admit Gatti, a warrior no doubt, was lucky to not get serious brain damage with all those beatings he took. Same goes for Holyfield, who just seems he won't quit till he gets permanent damage. It's a brutal and dangerous sport and sometimes one must be smart, so that one can stay healthy and continue fighting for OUR amusement.

No, it doesn't make much sense at all. His body gave out yet was able to jog across the ring and take a knee, and get back up within seconds.
