I was watching the fight and it looked like Cotto was looking to his corner when he was hurt do you think he wanted his uncle to throw in the towel before he knelt down?

Do you think he wanted to live another day? That answers your question.

i think when he shook his had "no", he was trying to hell his corner not to stop it.....but by that time his uncle was already on the apron.......so it's either that, or a DQ

He didnt ****ing protest, and his face looked as though he had just been worked over with a metal bat. And I am sure he wanted to be able to leave the ring under his own power, not on a stretcher.

He said in an interview that it was his decision to stop the fight. He said he didn't want his family to see him keep taking a beating and that he was thinking about the rest of his career.

Yeah he did. He knew he was done, and wasn't going to last. But I wouldn't call it quitting.

His trainer was already moving towards the ring apron after the first knee. After the second knee Cotto was watching the count as his Uncle ascended the steps. By the time he noticed his trainer on the apron it was already over either by TKO or DQ as it was academic at that point.

I think the question people are asking is whether the second knee he took a sign of total surrender or not as he did get back up and watched the ref count. Whichever it was I'm sure he was relieved when his corner waved off the fight. He had no chance to win at that point.

I think the debate is whether he should have just went through the motions after the first knee and let Margo knock him out proper to make the highlight reel.

I don't think he wanted the fight to be stopped. I think he would have been KO'd with absolutely nothing left.

watch the fight again m8,he did not want to continue its not as though he was seriously hurt with the second knee,he is looking at the ref knowing it is over, margo fukked him up mentally the previous 5/6 rounds by walking through his punches and basically saying you aint gonna ko me.i just hope cotto comes back the same fighter because he wont fight a margo type fighter again.

Can anyone name another fight where a top level talent ran as much as Cotto did and still took a beating?

I certainly can't. That was one for the record books. Cotto made it look like an utterly bad, stupid idea he was even in there in the first place. It was like he had no business at all being in that fight. Tactically, mentally, spiritually... It was all wrong.

I'm watching the fight again right now. I'm up to round 9. I've given Cotto 4 rounds, but the only round in which he didn't take a beating was round 1. Cotto definately looks lost out there, like he doesn't have a plan. Margarito, on the other hand, is putting on a clinic.
