By him taking that 2nd knee, without even receiving any additional punches, sent a clear message to his corner that he had enough punishment. After the last Margo barrage, Cotto backed himself up almost all the way across the ring into that corner, took a knee & basically ended the fight himself.
He a good fighter that can dish out the pain, but doesn't seem to handle it that well. Margo knew it was only a matter of time before he would crumble.

Cotto: Look, the first part of the fight, we knew we had it in the bag, then we experienced some complications from the punches being received, that slowed me down, so we understood that it was better to have health and leave to fight another day, I have many years left in boxing, so we reached the decision to put the knee down.

Interviewer: Well, I imagine that in your case that must be a tough decision to make as a boxer and as a champion. Because on one side you have the thought of being undefeated, did you take the decision or was it your corner?
Cotto: I took the decision, my family and children were there, instead of thinking about my record, I thought about them. More than suffering about the fight, I just suffered for them.

    <...>

Interviewer: Sincerely Miguel and since you always call them as you see them, Is it harder to climb up to the ring, or to put your knee down?
Cotto: I think that in my case it was more difficult to put the knee down, as you mentioned I didn't have a loss in my resume and losing the way I did it was tough for me but I want health, I want to see my children grow up, that's what's important

Kind of, his uncle was already climbing on the ropes and as soon as Cotto saw him he gave him a wink to say he was fine with the decision.

Even if cotto went to a knee on his own request, he still fought hard and I take nothing away from him, he's still my favorite boxer to watch, and in time I believe will become better from this. Experience is what you get, when you don't get what you want..

Cotto did the right thing and called it quits when he was taking a beating despite giving it all he had.

Was a good decision, and to answer the topic, yes he gave the ok to his corner to throw the towl

He had nothing left anyway and expected his corner to stop it, Cotto was barely able to keep his hands up and defend his self at that point.

When I saw Cotto take the first knee I knew he was done. His face said it all. Maybe he was looking to the corner for direction but most likely he was asking for assistance. He was resigned as hell by second knee and did not protest. Poor guy, I'm still absorbing this...sniff sniff...so you'll have to excuse me...sniff...I got something in my eye.

Whenever a fighter just lays down before ever even getting hit, its over. His uncle did the right thing.

This is nt negative its a real question when Cotto took 2 knees he was looking for a way out I just wondered if he wanted his uncle to stop the fight for him so he didnt have to take a knee
