most boxers who got kd'ed unconsciously look at their corner. some boxers might be hoping that their corner will stop the fight while some boxers might just be looking for an encouragement from their corner. so we cannot guess unless the boxer will tell us what's in his mind.

Cotto is not a quitter in my eyes. I think he just knew he had nothing in the tank. Cotto's pride will have him back in the thick of things in no time. He knows he got battered and that will only feed his hunger to be a champ again.

I dont know. Maybe Cotto saw his wife and son crying, and that is why everyone on his team decided to call it quits. Who knows. Cotto is a tough guy, and I give him a lot of credit and respect rolling with Margarito like that for 11 rounds.

I agree...we need to keep this a sport.....these boxers are very brave men in a dangerous sport.

Cotto has a bunch of potential, interesting upcoming fights for us to enjoy as fans in the future.

    He tried his best.

I think his corner should have stopped earlier than they did. Even on T.V. you could see him looking towards his corner for help. No fighter wants to quit. The corner has to take care of their fighter. Not think of themselves... When you KNOW that your guys isn`t going to win. And he is taking a beating. Let your fighter save face and stop it. And don`t ask if they want to continue either. Warriors always say yes. Save them, let them come back on another night...

I agree also, he fought his heart out but lost to the better man. Wether or not he could, or should have done things differently at this point is irrelevent as far as fight tactics. And probably wouldn't have changed the outcome that night. But that's another thread.

Regarding wether he was looking for a way out at that point, It seems he did. But it's not like he didn't fight, he met a stronger man. He was obviously beaten at that point.

So what did he have to gain by going on, get beaten to more of a pulp, maybe get brain damage. He is the the one to decide, maybe thinks it's better to not end up like so many others ie: Benitez, Taylor and on and on.

Like I said earlier, it's not like he stopped for the hell of it, he was on the short end of a war.

To what end to make some armchair fans happy, Cotto is the guy that has to be there for his family. Maybe it would make the armchair crowd happy if adding 1+1 would become difficult for him at the age of 35, like the 2 guys above.

If the two guys that were in the ring that night can credit each other. So should the peanut gallery.

    All good

Exactly he couldnt breath or fight anymore, live to fight another day takes more bravery and intelligance than taking a beating beyond you physical abilities

I would never dare call a fighter who risks his health for money and other people's lust for blood a coward.

Admitting to yourself that you just cannot take the punishment anymore and wanting to stop the fight is not cowardice.

This is one of the things I dont like about a few boxing fans compared with MMA fans. In MMA, there is no shame in tapping out and admitting you have been defeated and you cannot continue anymore.

If a boxer does that, some armchair boxer will forever say that youre a quitter and a coward.

Great post. MMA is this brutal, almost everything goes sport, but tapping legitimately is perfectly fine. Then all these Poodles claim Cotto is not a man for what happened in round 11. What's up with that?

    I agree 100%.:good

I don't mean to get off topic, but another reason why I was glad to see pacd and johnco leave becuase they used to call a warrior like morales a quitter.:-(

He literaly gave everything of himselves he could until he had nothing left, and some ***** motha****er is gonna say he was quitter.

I don't think Cotto wanted his corner to stop the fight. He shook his head to say no. Why would he get up if he wanted to quit?
