Did Rocky's stock go up in your eyes? I believe that I'll have to rethink a few things!
Addendum: I knew that he had a better defense than given credit for...but I didn't realize it to that extent. During a past interview with James Toney...He mentioned that he studied namely Charles and Walcott, that he tried to emulate...But he also mentioned Marciano as a great fighter too!
    CP,
James Toney knew what he was watching in regards to aggressive defense.

I've thought for a long time he was much better defense wise than many say. But what impressed me most about the video was @ normal speed Rock looked like his was getting tagged frequently and just blasting away in return. Then when the same sequence is shown in slo-mo, it really shows how great he really was slipping & blocking punches all while setting himself up to deliver ripping counters. That was a great production, damn I'm gonna watch it again now!

Not really, because I'd been aware about his defence for quite a while. It was a great video though, and an absolutely indispensible tool for showcasing
    his defensive skills.
I have a feeling some poor sod sooner rather than later is going to come here and say "Marciano's defence sucked!"

Oh really? There's this little video you must see...

I have belevied that he had very underated boxing skills and that he has an exlent chance to beat anyone less than 200 lbs.

By the smallest of margins, yes. Like his punches, Rocky's defense was hit or miss.

    No.

Just because you can pick out a few places where he managed to duck a punch doesn't make him a defensive master. Watch the whole fight.

I will say it was probably pretty hard to catch him flush tho...

Shouldnt come as a shock to anybody.

The guys record alone should tell you that he was doing something right.

If you want to see a fight between the Marciano of myth and the Marciano of reality watch his fight with Rex Layne.

Well, no- it hasn't significantly changed my views, because the point it made was more or less what I already thought before I watched the video. It was an excellent display, though, providing a tangible way to show people skeptical of his ability some of the more subtle elements of Marciano's greatness. In the past, I've had to simply quote various Marciano opponents and describe the subtlety of his style- in the future, I will use that video as a prime means of getting the point across.

Marciano was a lumbering idiot regarding his offense at times, just watch the film. He must have made up for that fact in some way to go 49-0-0. You can be the judge regarding whether or not defense played a role, but there are times when Rocky's offense would make one think he was 0-0-49 HW.
