Did Cus D'Amato ever see Tyson as anything other than a fighter?

I cant think of too many grown men who kiss each other on the lips, in public, in front of thousands of people, just for a joke.

You have to remember it was a different time in the 80's as opposed to now. It does seem a little weird but I've seen weirder things with the Klitschko's and their father.

Keep something in mind: Cus helped out a lot of guys who were obviously not going to even become contenders. He got them off streets, wen to court for them when they were in trouble, and helped a lot of them get jobs after they left amateur boxing. He helped Teddy Atlas by going to court to get him out of jail, and trying to make him a trainer after he would not box anymore. Atlas repayed him by spending the last 30 years spreading rumors about him.

Tyson's gayness with Jim Jacobs is irrelevant, it has nothing directly to do with him getting molested. It would have been 100% consensual on Tyson's part.

Things happened to Tyson in his childhood in the slums, if anywhere.

 

Yes, Cus did a lot of good for a lot of kids, but obviously he had to do that to justify the relationship he had with correctional institutions and juvenile courts that allowed him to take boys into his care. I'm not saying he wasn't genuine but legally he was obliged to show that his programme was about community and juvenile welfare. His principle motivation could well have been to find talent he could exploit for his own ambition, rather than pure altruism.

I don't know that Atlas spread any rumours. Those have been around a lot longer.

 

Cus D'amato and Jim Jacobs shared a room together for some time in the 1950s or '60s. Rumours they were lovers. Who knows. Who cares.

I'm much preferring to ponder the thought of Angelina Jolie and Robin Givens kissing in a boxing ring after a workout.
