Did Cus D'Amato ever see Tyson as anything other than a fighter?

Wouldn't be surprised if Tyson made the stories up of being molested as a kid, he's a master manipulator....

Once again, the source for that rumour is the trustworthy and very credible Theodore Atlas.

Who made all these claims when D'Amato and Jacobs were no longer around to deny it.

I'd say he's a lot more trustworthy and reliable than your hero.

Not much chance of that happening, Wass.

How convenient!! So the reason poor little Mikey groped and ****d women is because he was molested as a child. And Elvis is alive and well working as a kitchen porter in a hotel in Moscow.

A couple of points after reading this thread. I recently watched a documentary on netflex's called Champs, which featured Tyson, Holyfield and Hopkins. It was produced by Tyson. In it he made it fairly clear that he was molested as a child. Secondly he showed pictures of himself with Cus and his family. When he went back to the hood his friends said why the hell are you here when you have a wealthy white guy who loves you? That said he also said poverty hurts and you never forget the pain. Also something to consider is that it's pretty much an established fact that the first 4-5 years of your life largely influence who you will become in terms of character traits and once these traits are ingrained they are very hard to overcome.

I don't think babies are born rapists do you?

Like it or not, to some degree we're all products of our environment. Usually the older you are the more you realize this. This applies to everyone, even Elvis who became an emotional basket case once this mother died. That doesn't excuse criminal behaviour but it does to some extent explain it. Hopkins did jail time and l'm pretty sure the probability of him being a world class champion boxer was less than 5%. Overwhelming someone in his situation ends up back in jail, dead, crippled or at best a laborer. Being uneducated with a criminal record the very best accomplishment would be a tradesman of some kind.

Just found this old thread and was interested about what an eccentric person Cus was. I know he was known as a weird guy, but the extent of it is a little new to me.

I read this article which is an excerpt from a biography on Floyd Patterson:

Tyson's problems are down to his character ,or lack of , no one else's.
Ultimately you have to take responsibility for your own choices and path in life.
