Did Darcy Beat Up Fulton In Sparring?

Why not just bump the old thread up ? anyway don't answer that... fact is it did happen, Darcy was just in a whole other league but of course the HATERS will never agree, that is what HATERS do.

Really does anyone think fighters sparring and training together from different divisions is an unusual thing ??? really ? Fulton got swamped and probably learned a few things.

If you think you can confirm this whopper then do it. Otherwise this is all old news and doesnt remotely confirm that les darcy knocked out fulton in sparring. Its comical that there was supposedly a "private" sparring session arranged for the benefit of reporters where Darcy (who was huge in the press) knocked out Fred Fulton, the #1 contender, and none of those press men wrote about it. Lol. What exactly was the point? Was there a gag order? If so why invite the men most likely to publicize it? Was it to build up Fulton at the expense of Darcy, a mw? Nonsense. Was it to build up Darcy at the expense of Fulton? Why would the hw contender submit himself to that circus? And again, why no mention of any of this until months later if the press was assembled there? We wont over this in great detail in a thread yrs ago so im not going to cover old ground but if you, boilermaker, can disprove anything i said in that thread, and in the process prove this story then do it. But saying that jack dempseys cousins, grandmas, boyfriend saw it happen and told him about it five years later and jack retold it 30 yrs later is hogwash. When the earliest account of that story derives from one of darvys sycophants and there is literally no evidence it happened then im calling bull****. Its equally amusing that the same people who started trumpeting darcys greatness on this forum for "handling" a glass jawed hw who never amounted to anything, love to remind us that sparring means nothing in regards to greb "handling" the hw champion and the same guy who knocked out Fulton in a mere 27 seconds in his prime.

'the perfect fighting machine' looks ok on film, has a decent resume and died young before he really stepped up to the top level of the sport. how can you not see these are the ingredients of the one true goat?

Not sure if you read the two links already posted on this thread (I hadnt when i wrote the last post from memory) but there does seem to be doubt that whether the press was invited or not. Certainly the links seem to indicate that it was never reported. From memory and it gets worse as it gets older others have suggested that it was for the benefit of the press while one version had it as a private fight. This one said a private sparring session. No one knows the real motivations. In any case, it is undisputed that the sparring session took place, so what does it matter?

Who knows. Both fighters were draw fighters for the same promotional team at this point. It is not a good idea to publish a poor report against the only fighter who a is allowed to actually fight and b is in line for a shot at the world championship.

it is all just guess work and no one even knows if press were there or not, but here is one of a million different scenarios which may or may not have happened.

Rickard( and/or Browne): Hey come on why dont you give me some more stories to promote the new MAdison Square garden fights i have on.

Reporter: Because there are no decent fighters and the public isnt interested i still have to justify things to people you know.

I have no idea. Maybe it was to build up both as the scenario above suggested. Or maybe it was a bit of entertainment for the press. No one really knows there are a number of things to speculate, but that is all it is.

Why not? HW contenders not spar in front of the press or against middleweights? Maybe Fulton was getting in shape and wanted a decent work out.

No one knows, but heavyweight contenders get KOd all the time without it getting out in the press. One can only guess but carrying on from the above scenario, how about the following:

Rickard: This will show you how good both boys are i told them to go all out for a few rounds, just for you. You will see for yourself. Fulton is great. The only guy who can outpower that Giant Willard. Darcy is going okay to. See those guys over there, they want to match him with a young bloke they have called Jack Dempsey. He has talent too, I can make something of him he will be huge one day, but i have to convince him to make a go of it, he just went back to California and he is dissilusioned.

I dont like your chances he is a stubborn bloke and i heard he thinks it will help him get re elected if he maintains a hard stance agaisnt boxing. So many do gooders nowadays. I am not game to suggest Jack Johnson gets a rematch agaisnt willard, even though we all know he is still the best fighter for a long shot. I reckon he will go another 10 years before he loses another fight, but i still cant push him for a fight. In fact, if you or Browne even think about putting on a big white vs black title fight you can kiss this living good bye. Mark my words, the do gooders will ban the sport straight away. I dont care how good Harry Wills is getting, he never gets a title shot ... ever. You match him for the title and that it is it for the sport in this city. Even i wont be able to write for you. Hey jesus look... Fulton isnt coming out he quit. This will finish him as a fighter you just lost a big pay day. And what a shame Darcy probably wont get to fight in usa now. Reporter: Okay, anything can happen in sparring you know. Dont worry, nothing a bit of extra cash for me wont fix I will have your wallet thanks, it is only sparring no one cares too much. Look, i will just submit to my editor a standard one line report that Fulton sparred Darcy a couple of rounds, nothing to report. In 100 years, no one will know the difference, they probably believe everything they read in the paper as gospel over what you yourself tell them clear as day. I mean i was at ringside for some of those No Decision fights, i wonder if one day my reports will be decide the winner instead of the actual official decisions. Would be pretty funny actually. Anyway back to my money $500 cash right now!

Ricard: But i wanted to give this $500 to Les so he get a decent dentist to look at his toothache. You cant trust just anyone you know.

Rickard: yeah okay it is a deal. Hey Mick make sure the word gets around to the boys that no one says a peep about this until after Fred's jaw is publicly exposed in a fight. I dont want to lose my meal ticket.

 

I agree, it was a couple of threads and forums, at least one of which has been deleted. As i stated above you had some first class theories which appeared at first glance to disprove the stories as lies but when looked into further, they did not disprove anything. (i beilieve i already mentioned the main ones).

At the end of the day, nothing can be proved 100% either way. Given that approximately 6 or so well respected people witnessed the event and there is no evidence to disprove this wrong, i would have thought we need to go with the evidence of those suggesting it happened. But neither you, i or anyone else can provide 100% proof of exactly what happened, although in the process of trying we do know 100% that teh spar did actually take place.

 

This is simply your opinion...that is all. Dempsey said his people were there and witnessed it...I would take that over your opinion on this matter.
Is there 100% conclusive proof of the spar?...No. But as Boilermaker mentioned there were second hand reports ie Dempsey's people who said it took place. Total hogwash? Hardly...That again is simply your opinion.

 

well...new york times reported the day before that they were planning to train together the following day....ok, maybe not 100% conclusive proof of the spar.
